Relay – turn mains light on and off.

Hi,

Ive recently setup a Home Alarm system with an SMS notifier. The SMS notifier also has a built in on/off via text or phone.

I have a relay which I now have turning on/off a 240v standalone bulb ( via socket and light holder ) .

*However* Im wondering what I need to do in the real world.I will be using a Qualified Electrician to do this , but before spending money would like to do research.

Do I need to wire the relay , all the way to the light switch?

Any advise appreciated.

Can you tell what device you're using for the SMS notifier?

I'm sure you could get an electrician to wire up a rely for you, but I suspect there are some electrical codes that might prevent this from passing code.

I'm sure there are some off-the-shelf products that you could use in conjunction with your SMS notifier, that would pass code, but we need more information on the actual notifier to help more.

It can take output from 2 separate ( panic/alarm ) with 2 separate calls/sms.

Also has 2 12v outputs that you can switch on via sms ( or during alarm via dtmf )

Actually sorry Joe , I read your message wrong. Thought you were interested in more info on notifier for yourself.

Just to let you know. Ive tested it with a relay (3 -14v in , sms notifier sends 12v ) and can turn off and on 240v already via SMS. But not 100% how I interface with existing wiring/switching etc.
