Building a Digital Watch Using 555 Timer and 4026 IC: Components and Overview

On the internet there are hundreds of ways to build a digital clock, but none for a watch. I have the 555 and 4026 ICs. What more do I need? How do I build it afterward?

I just need a basic overview, I can figure out/calculate the rest myself without troubling you.

Assuming you mean "Wrist Watch", there's a reason you don't see plans for building one--they're SMALL. Even with an SMT package, yer not going to get a 555 and four 4026's in any kind of wrist watch sized container. A pocket watch, perhaps.

But, even so, you're not going to do it with the 4026. It's a decade counter and you need base 12 (or 24) and base 60. AND, it will be very difficult to get a 555 to run with enough precision to keep any kind of decent time.

If you're serious about this, you need to use something like a micro-power microcontroller or perhaps FPLA, plus an LCD display arranged into time digits that is small enough. That's about as much "overview" as I'm willing to provide. Anyone else?

There are Real Time Clock ICs, but I think some additional circuitry is required to drive a display.

You may also need a microcontroller, a LCD or seven segment display. Just get a circuit, write your code and fabricate it in your way.
