Electricity,Electronics and Health

We all know its possible to be harmfully electrocuted by electricity and electronics, but has anyone ever heard of any other risks or things that electricity or electronics can do to harm your health? like harmful radiation being emitted, or just coming into contact with certain circuitry being harmful? anything like that?



does anyone ever feel "strange" or ill after working with certain pieces of electronic components and/or parts?

I belive some people are sensitive to things that the vast majority of us are not. Individual differences can be amazingly diverse.

I once had to drive a friend with Fibromyalgia to the ER after lightning struck near his home. He had the shakes and was in terrible pain.

And there's the cell phone brouhaha: "Causes brain cancer." "No it doesn't." I wouldn't be surprised if they do cause cancer in a tiny minority - maybe too tiny to ever prove causation, however.

Maybe in the far future when we get the genome totally mapped out, someday a doctor can tell a specific patient, "You'll want to avoid xxx megahertz for the rest of your life."

Interesting to speculate on these things, but they are extremely hard to isolate experimentally.

From my experience, it didn't happen to me to feel "strange" after working with electronic components and circuits. I don't see any link between electronic circuits and human health, except RF emitters with very high power, like a TV transmitter antenna, satellite antennas, GSM and 3G BTSs

A general rule is that everything above 300 Mhz (microwaves) can be harmful to human health if the power is too high. But unless you work in such an envoronment mentioned above, you're ok.

I once felt the burn of RF (don't remember the frequency but it was a 60W CW Ham transmitter and I think I was working 10 Meters at the time ;)

I had an antenna matcher sitting on top of my rig that was completely exposed and I was dumb enough to touch it when the transmitter was keyed I got smarter pretty fast

i also beleive some people may be sensitive to things that the vast majority of us are not. i had a television set with standard cable in which whenever i turned the channel i could feel some sort of "pulse" or "signal emission" inside of my head. weird.

When I was 18yrs old i was working on this computer harddrive and i was shocked by an unknown amount of volts coming from my socket and into the equipment (some sort of electrical fluke). the pain was brief, and ever since that day i began to think differently, i began to ace or nearly ace all of my college tests, my score on an IQ test was substantially higher, i developed a taste for classical music and art as well, and my mental math became much faster and accurate than it had been before.
