hi
i am new to the field of wireless data transmission

i am building some project which requires serial communication
but i need it to be wirelessly carried
i dont want to buy the xbee modules
i want to build a simple circuit myself
the range is not required to be large (4-10)metres would be enough

any ideas??

Or, at SparkFun.com you can get a bare-bones transmitter and receiver (or transceiver if you want duplex serial communication) for really cheap:
