Pure tone generator – 5v trigger signal

Hello,

I'm a absolute beginner in electronics and would like to build a pure tone generator as well as a white noise generator which play a tone when a 5v trigger signal is supplied.

Can anyone explain to me how I can make a simple design to build a circuit with a frequency range from 1kHz to 20kHz and a volume of 80 -100dB.

That's a heck of a lot for a complete beginner to be tackling. I suggest you buy a set of kits and build them. That way you will have the guidance and teaching provided by the kit(s).

There's the XR2206 Function Generator IC, for producing a pure tone at any audio freq you want:

The audio amp you spec'ed is a bit more challenging. I would suggest you buy a kit, or buy a ready made audio amp.

Then, when you figure out how you want to go about this, then ask about gating it with that 5V signal, as the method might be dependant on the solution you choose.

...now, you say 80 to 100dB. Are you sure? If you're talking dBm, then that's 0.1 to 1.0 MEGAwatts (but I'm not well versed in audio, so I could be wrong)!!

OK, I did a little research -- you're talking about SPL when you say 80 - 100 dB. Basically, "vacuum" cleaner to "pneumatic hammer". I'm not sure how to translate that into amplifier power, but I'm fairly sure you can get to pneumatic hammer levels (and more) with a 300W amp--at least in the direction the speaker is pointing (a pneumatic hammer generates it's intensity of sound in all directions. A speaker does it in a section of that (not the whole 360°), so less power is involved -- but, still not sure how to determine that power level.

Thanks for the links and the advice. Yes I meant the sound pressure level in the range of 80 to 100. It's ok that the sound level with only be in one direction maximal. The only thing that I would like to achieve is a define Sound pressure level in a defined distance of the speaker along the optimal direction.

I'll look through your suggestions this weekend and try to familiarize myself the the different options you suggested. Thanks for you help... I realized I have to learn a lot...
