When selecting a generator, you have kW and kVA ratings. If you take the total kVA of all your loads, add them together, then you have the size generator you need. Correct?
How do you handle startup kVA? Do you have to use that value instead of the continuous as your generator selection? If all the items turn on at the same time, I would say yes, but if not, no because if one load turns on and off intermittent, but the others loads are continuous, then I should only plan on the total continuous load and have a buffer only for that startup load.
Also, I was doing an example where I had startup loads that exceeded the generators rating, however, the example still selected the lower generator size for the recomendation. Is this because the example assumed that all items would not be starting at the same time?
Thanks,
