Interfacing PIC Microcontroller with a WiFi router?

Hi everyone, I have been searching for similar projects but don't seem to get anywhere. I am looking to build a robot which will be controlled through wifi. The cheapest option is to go to PIC18 family as they have Ethernet connection. My question is will I be able to connect the Ethernet to the wifi router to control the robot through WiFi? Is it possible? How an i do this? Is there a better ideas which you guys can help me with? thank you all for your help. Regards

the Arduino is good to use but i am trying to make my own controller circuit. the design will need to meet the cheapest solution hence i mentioned PIC microcontroller. is it possible to do it with a micro controller?
i just need some guidence please.

i have more questions please, ''sorry or the hustle''
since the wifi is an expensive option, could i not connect to the wifi router through Ethernet? what i mean is my robot will be controlled through wifi joystick controller, this joystick controller is connected to the wifi router (through wifi) and the robot is connected to the wifi router through Ethernet cable, which will make a network. can i possibly conect the Arduino to the wifi router through the Ethernet module which i will add on to the Arduino board? or is it impossible? and can the robot be controlled that way?
