Hello. I have a very old Belkin 1200VA UPS and really no need for it until I recalled that I have always wanted a beefy AC to DC power converter to 12V and that could put out at least 25 amps. This would be for bench-testing car audio components prior to installation. Would I be able to safely use the UPS's AC to DC circuitry to do what I am seeking? There currently is no battery in it and none would be there as I assume I would use the battery terminal wires for my DC supply. Thank you for any advice. Such items are sold at places like Radio Shack but are expensive when in the higher amperage output range so if this unneeded UPS from 2002 would work, that would be great! Thanks. Thomas
Need a schematic first before I answer that question
If you want A good power supply capable of putting out 30 amps at 13v8 let me know I can build one for you with overload protection I’m always looking for new business
If you want to use the belkin First I need the schematics for the UPS Normally A UPS gives out 240 volts AC UK standards when the power trips This is why a UPS needs two 12 volt batteries
“It develops 240 volts AC out at 1200 VA , “ REPEAT NOT 12 VOLTS OUTPUT “ for a predefined period
This is so that you can back up your PC data if the power goes down Thats what A UPS is intended for so …..
DONT …. TRY AND CONNECT THIS TO A CAR AMP
Otherwise BIGGA BIGGA BADDA BOMB
Hope that helps you Otherwise youwon’t have much of a car amp left or a UPS come to that , without checking the supply its supposed to deliver
READ INSTRUCTIONS GET THE SPECS GET A SERVICE MANUAL
IF In doubt dont connect it or switch on unless you know what your doing
If It has USB out put then that is only 5 volts dc and its not supplied at 1200VA and its also AC "220 / 120 vac is not 12 volts DC "
Blimey
No wonder the Car audio Industry is collapsing Im not suprised when i see or hear questions like this one
Most people would look this up

Please Note Not even Amazon.co.uk describes this correctly as they should
and gives you the time to save open files and safely power off. When the power goes off, your computer still aperas to be powerd as though the mains hasnt tripped )
Also Not difficult to see why Amazon Loses Money is it anymore I dare say the amount of people who bought this thinking it was a 12 volt heavy duty ower supply must be alarmingly high
Also Interesting to Note at this point with reference to UPS not that every small business can afford this is the number of businesses in the Uk who have UPS back up on their networks
Answer possibly about 10%
PC world Any advice given what so ever with regards a UPS for home networks standalone PC’s business or personal use Answer possibly 2% of their salesman if that
I would imagine same for Comet …. Now bankrupt Not hard to see why ? They haven’t moved at all into 2013
Maplins possibly not one of their salesmen probably don’t even know what a UPS is Down to training poor wages etc
And I would say this has existed for at least the last 20 years that I can confirm already
Number of businesses able to take monies and still keep doors open when there is a power cut maybe If your lucky 20% All should have a backup power supply( UPS )
Library Greenwich Answer NO Also shut down when there is a power cut
DHSS The dole office Woolwhich Shut down when there is a power cut In fact they even open late when they have a meeting
Next Internet cafes... power cut shut down
Next tescos , Sainsburies .. etc power cut shut thier doors
Next petrol stations ... power cut shut thier pumps down
In fact they all have one thing in common No back up power supplies Professionals Ok if you say so !!
Here’s is the next big question why despite all the advice given do they not listen or implement this technology
Answer must like losing money either this or won’t invest
Next who suffers again Correct the normal taxpayer why because every time they lose data the business loses its tax records and in the end the public end up footing the bill
Me Id be demanding some answers to this and why’s an why not’s also why they keep telling you thier is no work out there Clearly there must be since they dont seem to have improved this market at all So Im suggesting that nearly all bussiness failures are based on a this very simple fact And id also be correct in saying that they have only tapped 10% of this market alone meaning every single bussiness should have a UPS installed
Not properly educated by so called proffesionals Not back up data correctly In aproprate advice by people such as PC world, Comet, maplins etc
Finally Never listen even to engineers Now I have a good feeling thats why your bussinesses are going bust over night Secondley you simply refuse to pay attention to either your staff , engineers , other persons when we say what your doing is wrong apart from all the other wonderfull reasons that most of us are aware of
So much for the so called proffesionals Cant say Im too impressed myself with this lot call yourselves salesman wa ha ha ha ha ha whoops , Ive got to laugh at some of them I really have to laugh
A simple walk up and down the high street in every town every major , minor bussiness reveal all with one simple question " Sir , madame what do you do when the power fails how do you back up the PC , allow me to show you how to keep your doors open when there is a power failure "
Ooh thats a bit difficult that
No it Is You need to be the brains of britain you know 6 o levels required to do that plus four degrees Not even mark from M&F electrical big super saleman Mark or little markie Rolphe Wa ha ha ha ha
Might need degrees , decent education to install this , Id Agree with that but you dont need to be the brains of britain to simply pop this question to all your bussineses and do some market research
Email shot them Ooh I dont know how to do that you know Eaoooo fancy that George well i never
"Oh Normal !! "
No excuses for this at all have they ... None I agree
You going to listen to this lot or your going to help yourseves Up to you i guess Me I wouldnt be waiting for this lot at all "selling lollipops and sweaties, washing cars Do me a favour go away wake up seriously wake up
Moe to the point what are you doing standing inside Maplins working for what £6.50 per hour minumu wage when you could be eaning a bundle
Open your eyes learn watch Listen for change might even learn something
Ps if you need to work out VA its on the net If you need that inside a smart phone ask me And ill write the sofwtare for you PS Dont expect it for nothing because the answer IS No you pay for it
