First of all, I'm not an electrical engineer (studying to be a petroleum engineer as it stands) but I have a very strange issue with my computer right now. I've asked local electricians and scoured the internet for something related to this, but can't seem to find the answer to the problem. So here it is.
Basically when I get up and/or sit down at my computer, some of the USB ports on my computer will stop working and then immediately start working again (or atleast after I unplug and replug them in again). I know that it's not a computer problem because the same symptoms occur on both my laptop and my PC (both of which have not had an issue with this at my old residence). The problem can also occur if I adjust my position while sitting, it seems to be related to movement. Now also my cat sometimes sprints around under my desk and it causes the issue as well. I thought perhaps it had something to with an outlet not being grounded so I checked all of the outlets in the room to make sure they were properly grounded, which didnt solve anything. Now whats strange is my roommate has a computer in the other room which doesn't display any of these symptoms at all. He gets up regularly and the cat also races around under his desk, which doesn't cause the issue for some reason.
Now this has been going on for at least 6 months. I've stupidly ignored it up until now as it wasn't a major hindrance until it finally damaged the motherboard on my PC. So basically the problem seems to exist only around that room, or maybe it has something to do with the static electricity that I generate? It really doesnt make much sense to me, does anyone else have any idea what it is?
