Hello everyone, new to this forum and love what I see.
I am rebuilding a Mitsubishi automotive motherboard from 1991-1993 and am puzzled to what type of package or application the IC shown on my attached images is.
It appears to be an exposed die. It has a plastic shroud (black) mounted on the PCB with a gel like substance filling the area inside the plastic shroud. _The white specs are remnants of the packaging peanuts used to ship the ECU to me; apologize for that.. need to get compressed air to remove the dust without touching the gel material._
Also very interestingly it appears Mitsubishi used printed carbon resistors instead of SMD passives. If anyone could shed some light on what this IC package is and the purpose of having this configuration it would be greatly appreciated. I am guessing thermal?
