Why do motor overloads trip when shutting down belt-driven agitator in tile chest?

Has anyone ever heard of motor over loads tripping upon shutting the motor down? The motor is running a belt driven prop used as an agitator inside of a tile chest full of pulp.

What does your motor have in its load? Just want to ask also, what is this motor used? My idea is that shutting down the motor causes the high surge which is coming from a load external to the motor. Unless its a passive component, then my idea is completely useless.

Never heard of such a thing - does not make sense. Are you saying that if you do not shut down the motor the OLs would not otherwise trip? What kind of motor? Is it being supplied by a VFD? Have OL devices sized correctly?
