What is the CORRECT answer as to why single phase (120vac) induction motors have a capacito(s) on them? I was told the reason is for rotation direction, but then I came across single phase motors where the motor will not work due to a defected capacitor. Can someone tell me what is the reasoning for capacitor on single phase motors.Out of curiosity can a three phase induction motor have a compacitor?
