I have a 24V DC Motor with a "power on" brake. The motor can operate in reverse (reverse polarity). The "power on" brake needs 24V and 10W . I have a toggle switch that can operate the motor in forward, neutral and reverse. So, 24V positive, no voltage and 24V negative. I can wire the "power on" electromagnetic brake directly to the feed wires to the motor. Regardless of polarity, the electromagnetic brake will release as long as it is supplied with the 24V.
I want to have a separate 2-position toggle switch. Automatic and Off. In automatic mode, the electromagnetic brake with turn off and on according to the forward and reverse switch of the motor controller. When the motor controller switch is in the middle position (off/neutral) the brake will engage. In "off" mode of the separate 2-position switch, 24V will always be supplied to the electromagnetic brake, even if the directional toggle of the motor controller is in the middle/off position. The problem I am having is if the manual 2-position switch is in the "off" position (so supplying 24V to the electromagnetic brake), will I not get a short if the motor controller switch is switched to "reverse" therefore sending 24V negative along with the 24V positve from the manual switch?
Please help me with this wiring. Thanks.
