    Hello and welcome
I bought a camera that has ugly marks from a spilled battery. The hardware is working fine, but I'd like to get rid of these traces.
Can you advise me on how to go about it and what resources should I use?
    Thank you and best regards

Toothbrush, warm water, soap. We repeat washing many times holding the camera with the washed side down so as not to pour water inside. More soap, less water. After washing and drying, wipe the cleaned surfaces with silicone oil. And done. This method is almost always successful.

    OK, thanks a lot.
In the meantime, I found a few similar posts and advised, among others: to wash with isopropanol.

You will not get the same effect with alcohol as after soap, which at the same time neutralizes any acidification from electrolytes. If there are deeper pits on metal parts (often copper plated steel), it is good to remove rust with Fosol after the soap, followed by soap and oil to protect against further oxidation.

If the battery was alkaline, soap won't help. Ideally, if possible, remove the flooded contacts and wash in a weak acid, which is what I do in vinegar, then wash in a lot of water. Dry, silicone grease or other. It's a pity to scrape. The thin coating (gold plating, silver plating) can be damaged.
