Hello colleagues from this new forum for me.
I am asking for advice on the selection of wire (rods) for TIG welding of ordinary steels - angles, flat bars, sheets in various "garage" constructions.

Are ordinary steel bars (such as for gas welding) sufficient or are expensive stainless steel wires necessary?

I have always used the regular ones, but I had the inconvenience that this bar was strongly attracted to the material being welded, and it disturbed my work. I recently bought the stainless ones and the phenomenon has disappeared, but the cost is 10 times higher.

Maybe there is some other method?

Thanks, I followed this trail and now I have a printed catalog of one of the manufacturers with descriptions of the binders and the address of the store where I can buy the 12.64 wire.
    We'll see.

First of all, you do not waste time welding such crap as garages using the tig method, you will put a quicker and equally aesthetic weld. When it comes to the wire, first of all, you choose the diameter of the wire to the thickness of the material being welded and the amperage you will be welding, of course, experience of speed and a skilled hand.
If you weld ordinary steel st3s st4s st5s, do not hesitate and buy a spool of 1.2mm wire or cut a thicker wire into pieces as you feel comfortable and in trouble. I guarantee you will be satisfied. However, I do not propose welding black steel with acid wire, I know it is elegant, easy and pleasant to weld, and that's the end.
This wire has completely interesting alloy additives that have a negative effect on the weld, e.g. the weld will be brittle and break after some time, and economy. You can always buy a wire for tig welding, when you go to the store, they will tell you what, however, remember about the diameter of the wire, it will affect the comfort of your welding, after all, you can weld with a tig without wire feeding, then I recommend having 0.6mm on hand if you want to add it, but I talked about something, I will always gladly tell you armko(_at_)wp.pl
