Do you clean the potentiometers at all and is it something serious? Isn't it better, for example, to buy a new one? How to clean it, how - any warnings, recommendations ??? Or is it just simple to clean with a cotton swab?

    Hello
The potentiometers can be cleaned with KONTAKT 60 and KONTAKT 61 preparations, available in stores.

    Hello ..
As my colleague DARIUSZ said ... but you can use alcohol ... in the past I used a syringe ... it worked for about 1 to 2 months ..
how to use: a syringe with a needle .. you take the spirit and squeeze it .. it remains empty but not completely ... a little bit of spirit is left on the walls and with a little quick movement you push it into the potentiometer .. 3 such operations should help for a short time ..

It is usually mentioned ... but there are situations where the potentiometer is exotic, the equipment is worth PLN 100 and the pot in the North costs PLN 150 and what?
So we do it, we piss with PR contacts, or we dismantle and drink alcohol. It is worth "pulling" later, anointing it so that it does not oxidize.

I do not recommend spirit - after drying it is dry. KONTAKT preparations dissolve corrosion layers (oxides and sulfides), protect and create a thin protective layer.

I amatorze 3 volume sweat 2x47komb slider I cleaned with alcohol before that it creaked terribly until the membranes in the columns were flying  then after cleaning it was okay for 5 laughs until I sold an amateur ...

    Telpod is not bad!
There are 15-20 years old equipment with telpods and running smoothly and without cracks / interruptions.
And the price is about 1.50 and 150 alps.

drawing resistance paths with a soft pencil and for bending plates usually helps a lot for a long time ....... no d in which together with the worn material create a conductive muck .........

I only ride Telpods, sometimes also the wire ones :)

As for the manipulation with the pencil, I have to try. First, of course, I clean up the dirty paths :) This may help in regenerating the sliders I put on the console.

I use a contact there - and I treated the old alps with it, and they went so that every now and then the bass or treble disappeared, and now like new

I always cleaned with alcohol there. But if someone cares about the long and best operation of these potentiometers, I would advise you to change them.

..so I will add to this thread. I damaged the radmor 5412 when pulling the knob, the Telpod 2x47k M + N balance potentiometer with a rattle. I also bought another Telpod (manufactured in 1986 :-) ) but without a ratchet and with a slightly shorter fastening thread. I wonder whether to install this "new" or restore the original to the grace. I wonder whether to take it apart by bending these leaves? Do they break when tightened again? Maybe it is better to unfold the entire housing from the bottom? Or maybe you can somehow put the guts of the new into the original housing? ... I think I would have to tear the ear off again.

Break the old one as if you got a new one.
I would put a new one, because new is new (you know it's functional)
Besides, the rattle will not catch me somehow, the goiter is liquid.

My uncle used the telpod for mixers 10-15 years ago. And it was. They were folded pretty well, crackles after a while, you know. But there have been no instances of Oska swaying. Because that's what most often bend the slider plates (i.e. the middle leg) and it stops.
I repaired a few mini-towers from the '95-00. They always used vertical print pots there. Very convenient to use, but not usable. The plastic osks swayed. moment and the slider bent. Well, it sometimes interrupts when a toothpick is placed under the knob, it caught and worked.
However, I have never had Alps potentiometers etc. and here I have a question whether a potentiometer 10 times more expensive is 10 times better. is it profitable to give something better than a telpod to the mixer ??

If you have an old and a new one, of course, try with the old one ... and when you bend the leaves, first bend them with something flat (e.g. with a broken knife) and then take the pliers ... then it will be a little easier to bend them evenly and break them more difficult.

And here I would join the question. Because, however, more potentiometers are waved in the mixer ... :D

    Good day.
I cleaned a few potentiometers and they were doing very well. The claws fastening the housing do not break after bending and folding back once, as long as they are made of sheet metal (sometimes they can withstand another renovation). Sometimes cast bodies can be found, the handles will break. If you cannot pull the potentiometer from the device, you can spray potentiometer spray inside, it will help for some time. But it's always better to undress. I wash the path and the slider with extraction gasoline (preferably pharmacy gasoline) and grease it thinly with silicone grease, such as for heat sinks, only transparent, not white! When there are pits on the path, you have to try to move the wires or the slider's plates sideways, to the new path. Then it goes as long as new. Spirit does not dissolve fats and dirt poorly, but it can also be used. I never use sprays for slide potentiometers, because they jam later and don't move smoothly. I heard that there are special sprays for sliders, but I didn't use them because they work perfectly with silicone grease. I did the same with the rotary switch on the VCR sometimes, and there were never any problems.
These are just my experiences in this matter. Everything has to be practiced personally.
    Greetings

Can you clean the potentiometer with acetone (nail polish remover)? Will acetone not damage the tracks? In fact, I've already cleaned it with acetone and spread it with baby oil. The crackling disappeared but after a few days it got even bigger - the olive must have dried up. I have to take them apart again. I hope that the paws from the housing will not break.

Topic summary

Cleaning crackling potentiometers can be effectively achieved using specialized products like KONTAKT 60 and KONTAKT 61, which dissolve corrosion and provide protection. Some users recommend using alcohol or a syringe method for temporary relief, but caution against using spirit due to its drying effects. Alternatives include using a soft pencil to draw resistance paths and silicone grease for lubrication. While cleaning can extend the life of potentiometers, replacing them is often advised for long-term reliability, especially for high-quality brands like Telpod and Alps. Users have shared experiences with various cleaning methods and the importance of careful handling to avoid damaging the components.
