Potentiometer replacement

I need 4 replacement pots for my audio board and can't find exact replacements anywhere, not even from the manufacturer. I've tried Mouser, Allied, Newark and countless others. I need 4ea - dual gang 1.5 k antilog pots. The closest I can find are dual gang 1K linear which are a perfect fit but I am not sure how they would work in the circuit. I read that these can be modified with a resistor which will turn their function similar to antilog. I have even considered hardwiring to eleiminate the pots altogether. I did find a supplier that would make dual gang 1K antilog pots but @ $40.00 a pop and a $50.00 set up fee. I need advice on how to proceed.

"not even from the manufacturer" - is that the _board_ or the _pot_ manufacturer ?

If you just use linear pots of the correct resistance value, the circuit will work perfectly, but the angle through which you turn the control knobs for a certain change will be different. If they are just presets, this is no problem.

It is sometimes possible to recondition pots by disassembling and cleaning. Bend the tabs up carefully just enough to open it, clean the track and wipers with a mild solvent such as lighter fluid or methylated spirit. If the track is worn away, you might get away with bending the wiper to contact a different arc of the track.

I assume Colin is referring to Contact Cleaning Fluid, available in aerosols from electronic suppliers, but I think its better to open things up to get the dust and dirt out.

I am not familiar with the component near the output of the circuit, please can you tell me what it is ?

That is an analog switch. Can't read the whole part number but think DG201 variety.

Good idea this avoids those horrible viper diper wiper noises after pot gets dirty or intermittent

A different type of linear electronic volume control ( opto coupled) instead of directly coupled hmmm Interesting Very Interesting could be adapted for digital audio streams perhaps hmmm ??
