    Hello
I have walls in the garage that are covered with this white chalky stuff and it stains clothes terribly if you lean against it. I think it's lime.
How to remove it from the walls so that it can be painted with normal paint?

I wouldn't wash it off, just paint it twice with emulsion paint, once heavily diluted and the other normal. Apparently, you can put an emulsion on the lime. :D

You have several options. You can wash it off.. Leave the algo scraping and prime it. If you want to remove this layer of lime, look for gray soap. Dissolve it in water and apply it to the walls quite generously.
Personally, I would prime this lime with an emulsion paint solution and paint it. The only thing you need to pay attention to is whether the lime does not fall off somewhere with platami.

Hello, from your post it appears that you have a damp garage. The white coating is lime and salt efflorescence. Dry the room and remove the deposit mechanically (using a wire brush). I suggest priming the walls with the preparation "ZSE - lime and cement tarnish remover" - Quick-Mix. Then (after the preparation dries) paint the walls with emulsion paint. Remember about proper ventilation of the garage (ventilation grilles).

Hello, I have a similar problem,
I want to remove the lime from the ceiling in the garage and glue the Styrofoam.
I don't want it to fall apart after a few months.
As for grinding with a wire brush, it would be a bit of work,
    and lots of dust.
I was thinking about doweling these plates, but this is gel concrete and a flat roof

    Maybe someone has an idea.

Topic summary

To remove lime buildup from garage walls before painting, several methods are suggested. Mechanical removal using a wire brush is recommended to avoid creating mud. Priming the walls with a specific primer, such as "ZSE - lime and cement tarnish remover" from Quick-Mix, is advised to bind the layers. After preparation, applying a diluted emulsion paint followed by a normal coat is a common approach. Proper ventilation is essential during the process. For those considering alternatives, using gray soap dissolved in water can help in the removal process. Concerns about moisture in the garage should also be addressed to prevent future issues.
