    Hello,
A bit of a tricky topic as it's not happening at my place but at my aunt's, so I'm slightly limited, but I'd like to gather as much information as possible. Yesterday I thought I had managed to deal with it because everything started working and so I didn't take any screenshots etc, but today the problem is said to have occurred again. I will try to describe everything:

    1. there is a TP-LINK router in the house (of course I didn't write down the model).
    2. supposedly nothing has been changed.
    3. suddenly there is no internet on 3 laptops mostly - it connects to the network, but it says access is limited and no internet. Once in a while the internet works.
    4) When I switched on the first laptop the internet was working normally, but I disconnected and reconnected and there was already "access limited" and the beloved yellow triangle with an exclamation mark next to the signal strength icon.
    5) With limited access the ping to the router was not getting through.
    6. if this was a problem on only 1 laptop I would have thought it was a network card failure, but it is happening on 3 at the same time.
    7. mobile phones connect to WiFi with no problem and the internet works on them.
    8. i have checked the network card settings and everything is set to "auto" (IP download etc etc).
I connected to the router via cable and on one laptop the internet was working normally and surprisingly it also started working when I disconnected the cable and connected via WiFi (repeatedly disconnected and reconnected), but after restarting the computer again "access restricted".
    10. the second laptop connected via cable also had no internet and I used the system repair tool and it appeared that DHCP was disabled and fixed the problem. Internet started working on cable and WiFi. I thought I was saved and had found the source of the problem, but it turned out that DHCP on the other laptops was turned on, and the WiFi on this one started failing in a moment.
11 I went into the router's settings and to my eye everything was set up as it should be (I'm not the alpha and omega on this, as I set up the router once every couple of years), but I did pay attention to:
    (a) MAC address filtering disabled
    b) I connected to the network with my phone and immediately its MAC address appeared in the list
    12. tired of my helplessness, carrying the laptops up and down the stairs for everyone to enter their login passwords, I thought that maybe the simplest solutions are the best and from the router's settings options I selected "Reboot" and suddenly the WiFi started working with 100% connectivity on 2 laptops (I didn't try on the 3rd because my cousin's sister had left home and there was no one to log in). I restarted the laptops, connected and disconnected the network and everything was ok.
    13. today my aunt calls me and says same problem again.
    14. each laptop is running Windows 8.1
15.I don't know if this is normal, because on my laptop I have Windows 7 and on my laptop this doesn't happen, namely the network is called "kasia", but when I connect to it and turn on "network and sharing centre" it is on the left side under "display active networks" for example "kasia 3", other times "kasia 9", "kasia 1". In addition, the network displays as "private". I have tried deleting it and adding it and each time there were still numbers and it was private without being able to change it.
    16) It is not the fault of the antivirus, as only the good old avast is installed.
    17) I haven't yet tried restoring the router to factory settings because I didn't want to mess things up more
18.The worst part is that suddenly everything started working and I thought restarting the router was enough....

If If anyone reads my ramblings and is able to suggest something (I know it's like fortune-telling), I'd be very grateful, because I have to go to my aunt's again and fight an uneven battle. I would try to connect another router, but I gave my old one away, and I have cable internet myself, and I got a router from the provider whose settings I can't access, so I won't move it, or I'll lose contact with the world myself.

Thanks in advance for your help
    Regards

If it's the W8951ND model then change its power supply to 12V 1A because this model "limps" at higher loads.

    Also disable the UPnP option.

This does not need to be done with this model.

While the internet is "not working", check where the problem lies by sending a ping to the gateway, dns server and wp.pl service
    ping 192.168.0.1
    ping 8.8.8.8
    ping wp.pl

and paste the answers in the forum.

    ping 192.168.0.1
    ping onet.pl

This I "pinged" yesterday it did not reach the ping "time exceeded"

during the time that the ping to 192.168.0.1 does not go through, the internet on the phone is working?

And unfortunately I can't say because I haven't checked, but once when the internet wasn't on my laptop I connected to the wifi on my phone and looked for a solution. It's just a question of whether it wasn't downloading from my mobile at the time, but once at home when I connected to my router and there was a problem at the ISP the pages wouldn't turn on on my phone and I had to turn off the wifi to get them to display from my mobile, so from that I deduce that if it wasn't working on my laptop it was working on my phone.

And in addition there are probably 3 decoders/smart tv's connected to the router and I guess the problem only affects laptops

edit: My uncle has a second, new router, so I'm just going to swap it out because something isn't working here. I've come to find it spitefully works the internet on the laptops and there's not even a way to look for the cause of the problem

Topic summary

The discussion revolves around a TP-LINK WR740N router experiencing connectivity issues, where laptops connect to the WiFi but show "limited access" while phones remain functional. The user describes intermittent internet access on laptops, with successful pings to the router (192.168.0.1) failing during outages. Suggestions include checking the router's settings, disabling UPnP, and testing pings to various addresses to diagnose the issue. The user plans to replace the router with a new one, suspecting hardware failure as the cause of the problem.
