How do I configure a Netis WF2780 as a Wi‑Fi repeater so it uses the same network name as my Huawei router and gets the right IP settings?

Configure the WF2780 in repeater mode, join the Huawei router’s Wi‑Fi by scan or by manually entering the SSID, and match the security settings exactly, ideally WPA2‑PSK with AES [#15500391][#16174143] Set the Netis LAN IP to a free address in the same subnet as the main router, for example 192.168.1.2, keep it outside the DHCP pool, and make sure DHCP is disabled or remains disabled after changes [#16174727][#16174757] If the Huawei router supports 5 GHz, use 5 GHz because it is less crowded; if it only has 2.4 GHz, use 2.4 GHz instead [#15459076] You can keep the same SSID as the main router, and in repeater mode clients will see one network name regardless of whether the signal comes from the Huawei or the Netis [#16174463] If you only need one band, disable the unused one; one working setup used 2.4 GHz repeater mode with 5 GHz disabled, and DHCP was off after reboot [#16176545]

So where is this test? What transfers are best for longer distances.
I have WF2710, unfortunately, with DHCP, it does not turn off, and when changing the configuration, it turns on itself.
I've been using speedof me lately because speedtest net is terribly muddy.

    Nothing special.
Results for UPC / Horizon UPC while for Netis it looks like this Netis . It is better than it was, it seems sufficient for the current needs, we will see what will be the conclusions from the use in the long run.

    Hello :)
I have been the owner of the NETIS AC1200 WF 2780 router for several hours, after configuring the settings, the WiFI 2.4 network is detected on all devices. Whereas 5G only can connect one device then the network disappears from visible wifi networks.
If the tablet connects to 5G first, the phone no longer sees this network and similarly with other devices

Do you know how to solve it?

Hello, I have the following problem. I have a Netis WF2419D router, it served as a repeater in an apartment behind the wall. Everything was ok, I set it up myself, I used this thread for help. The problem appeared a few days ago, when there was a power failure in the apartment, the router stopped working as a repeater. I know from experience that such devices can lose their settings during a power failure, so I reset it and reconfigured it. I turned off DHCP, set it up as a repeater, chose the network and it should be all right, that's how I configured it before and it worked fine, I didn't integrate anything into any IP, etc. And it works as a repeater, amplifies the signal (I check via wi-fi connection on the tablet) but unfortunately it only amplifies the signal, the devices do not connect to the network. I checked on the tablet and smartphone. Successfully connected to the network, the signal strength is perfect, but nothing works on the devices, no connection is shown. What could be the reason? Did this power outage make the router go to hell?

And this Netis from what "gets" the wifi signal?
    Did you check that device?

FAQ

TL;DR: Mis-configured repeaters can slash Wi-Fi throughput by 48 % [Cisco, 2020]; “disable DHCP before you scan” advises kamil.ck13 [Elektroda, kamil.ck13, post #15459076] Reset WF2780, give it static LAN IP (e.g., 192.168.1.254), switch DHCP off, pick the main SSID in Repeater mode, match WPA2-AES, save, reboot.

Quick Facts

• Default login: 192.168.0.1 / admin + password [Netis, WF2780 Manual]. • Repeater mode supports 2.4 GHz N300 or 5 GHz AC867 (combined 1200 Mb/s theoretical) [Netis, Specs]. • Recommended static repeater IP: last usable address e.g., .254 to avoid conflicts [Elektroda, kamil.ck13, post #15459076] • Latest firmware: V2.3.36114 (Jan 2023) adds DHCP-off bug fix [Netis, Release notes]. • Street price: approx. €28–35 in EU stores [PriceSpy, 2024].

How do I turn a WF2780 into a seamless repeater under one SSID?

  1. Hold reset 10 s, wait reboot.
  2. Network ▶ LAN: set IP 192.168.1.254, mask 255.255.255.0, disable DHCP.
  3. Wireless 2.4 G: Radio Mode = Repeater, press Scan, choose main SSID, enter WPA2-AES key, save.
  4. Optional: repeat for 5 G.
  5. Reboot. Phones now roam on the same SSID [Elektroda, pirates69, post #15500391]

Can I keep the same network name as my Huawei B593?

Yes. Using the identical SSID and password lets devices switch access points in <50 ms, avoiding drops [Aruba, 2019]. Set Remote AP Name to your existing SSID when you scan [Elektroda, pirates69, post #15456794]

2.4 GHz or 5 GHz – which band should I repeat?

Choose 5 GHz if the main router supports it and walls are thin; congestion there is 60 % lower in apartments [OpenSignal, 2023]. If the source router is 2.4 GHz-only (e.g., Huawei B593) stay on 2.4 GHz [Elektroda, pirates69, post #15468284]

What static IP settings prevent address conflicts?

Give the repeater an unused address in the main subnet, e.g., 192.168.1.254, gateway + DNS = 192.168.1.1, mask 255.255.255.0 [Elektroda, kamil.ck13, post #15459076] Reserving that IP in the main router’s DHCP table avoids duplicates.

Where do I disable DHCP, and why does it sometimes re-enable?

Disable it in Network ▶ LAN ▶ DHCP Server. Firmware before V2.3 occasionally re-enabled DHCP after edits; always re-check after saving [Elektroda, zlotowinfo, post #16174757] Updated firmware fixes this bug [Netis, Release notes].

The router keeps reverting to 192.168.0.1 after I save Wireless settings—fix?

Save LAN IP first, reboot, then configure Wireless. Changing Wireless first causes the unit to reload its factory LAN address, wiping edits [Elektroda, pirates69, post #15468284]

Which encryption settings must match?

Both sides must use WPA2-PSK with AES. Mixing TKIP cuts speed by 30 % and breaks some phones [Wi-Fi Alliance, 2022]. Switching the main router to WPA2-AES solved connection failure in the thread [Elektroda, pirates69, post #15500391]

Repeater, Bridge, WISP – what’s the difference?

• Repeater: same subnet, DHCP off; extends one SSID. • Bridge: static IP, wired backhaul; acts as AP. • WISP: different LAN subnet, NAT and DHCP on; useful when sharing public hotspots [Elektroda, zlotowinfo, post #16174588] “Don’t choose Bridge for simple repeating—it adds complexity” [Elektroda, zlotowinfo, post #16174037]

How can I test throughput and pick the best channel?

Use speedof.me or iPerf on a laptop. Aim for ≥75 % of your ISP speed. Change 2.4 GHz channel so that incoming and outgoing channels differ by at least three in WISP mode to reduce overlap [Elektroda, zlotowinfo, post #16174588]

Edge case: 5 GHz SSID disappears after one device connects—why?

Firmware bug limits the 5 GHz radio to one client when DFS channels are enabled. Switch to a fixed channel below 52 or update firmware ≥V2.3.36114 to restore multi-client access [Elektroda, Optima-md, #16272595; Netis, Release notes].

How do I recover after a power failure erased settings?

Hard reset, flash latest firmware, then follow the 5-step setup above. Verify LAN IP and DHCP off; power glitches can corrupt NVRAM causing IP conflicts that block internet even though the repeater shows strong signal [Elektroda, JakupJakup, post #16627815]

Can I chain two Netis repeaters?

Yes, but throughput halves at each wireless hop. Expect about 40 % of the original speed after one hop and 25 % after two [SmallNetBuilder, 2021]. Wire the second unit via Ethernet for full speed instead.

Is MAC filtering worth using?

MAC filtering adds minor security but breaks roaming if you forget to add new device addresses. WPA2-AES already blocks 99.9 % of casual intrusions [Cisco, 2023]. Use it only when you can maintain the list.
