My current HP DeskJet 5150 printer (with duplexer) is causing more and more problems and I'm thinking of buying a printer with a scanner that can print in color. The problem with the current printer is that I print rarely but when you need it it is something important and then it turns out that the printout is of hopeless quality, the color is interrupted or even nothing prints because both inks have dried. For this reason, I think that ink devices are not suitable because the ink dries probably in everyone and cannot be easily cleaned. In this model in the drivers for Windows 7 and 10 there is no option to clean the head, but on the laptop I still have XP and there is such an option but usually the effect is miserable and ends with the fact that urgent prints can not be made and in addition I have to order a set of new carcasses (replacements).
Looking towards laser devices, of course, prices are much higher not only for the device but also for toners / drum, in addition, the performance is artificially limited by chips counting copies. Since I have little space at home, I would be interested in the smallest possible equipment, print speed is not very important. It's nice if it has a duplexer but it's not mandatory. I think about 1000 zlotys, but maybe a little more if it was worth it.
Initially, I liked SAMSUNG SL-C480W, but I do not know if it makes sense to buy this device and how with the operating costs, whether there are any fixes or eternal chips that would pay off to mount and refill the toner yourself.
Or maybe there is another device that would meet my requirements?

    edit:
One more device I found at an interesting price: Ricoh Aficio SG 3100SNw
Like ink but gel and in the opinion of this ink does not dry, are there really no problems with drying in such a printer? It has a duplexer and even ADF at a similar price to Samsung.

There is no perfect solution when it comes to printers for home use. In inkjet printers, the most popular problem is clogged nozzles, especially if we use them from the holiday. Color laser printers have no problems with inkjet printers but are relatively expensive, and the operating costs are significant. Gel printers seem to be an interesting solution but at the moment it is not possible to reduce operating costs as it is the case in ink (adding ink, use of the CISS system) or in lasers (adding powder to toner or using cheaper substitutes). And one more thing - when buying new printing equipment, many manufacturers assemble cartridges or toners starters with limited options when it comes to the number of pages printed. You must know that printer production is in short supply but manufacturers must compensate for losses and earn well. And they do it by selling consumables. For example, the abovementioned Ricoh Aficio SG 3100SNw - a set of gel containers with a used gel container is an expense of over PLN 600 and the ability to print approx. 2,200 pages. So a set of containers costs as much as a new complete device. I must add that this gel printer is relatively loud during operation. While in the office is not a problem, it can be tedious at home. To sum up - you have to make your own decision. Considering the number of printed pages, however, consider buying a gel printer.

Right, but it depends on the quality of the print depends on the questioner. I've had Brother DCP J315W for several years now, it's a bit older product, in this printer I have no problems with head drying. It is equipped with a self-refreshing head function, all you have to do is plug it into the power socket. Once a day, a few seconds "grind" and there is no problem with the heads. I use the printer sometimes, I print a card "from the holiday" and all this, there are periods of standing and two months without "active printing" and there are no problems, it is always ready to print. There is also Wi-Fi in it, so that there is no problem connecting. The fact that refreshing the head is at the expense of minimal ink consumption, continuous connection to the power supply (can be turned off by pressing), wakes up only for say 30 - 40 seconds per day as it is turned off and unused, the only drawback is that this "refresh" cannot set when to do it. If a printer of several years had such "something" then certainly modern Brother models certainly have it, but I don't know what. Exploitation is quite cheap (a set of quite good substitutes, 4 pieces, B, M, Y, C, you can already buy for 30 zlotys, and they are even cheaper), cartridges are without chips, printing is not that bad either.
Sure, some people complain that it can "poison" with used ink, that it consumes energy and ink, but these are minimal amounts and costs.

I have been using samsung CLP-365W for 3 years. Prices of original consumables are knocking down.
But the set of unbranded toners for samsung printers on British ebay costs 45GBP.

By the way, windows drivers refuse printouts when toner says it is depleted. Apple drivers don't worry about it and they print nice. You don't have to buy a Mac straight away, just print PDFs made from Windows from your phone or tablet.

When it comes to print quality, I don't print photos, so no photographic quality is required.
As for Ricoh, I found the opinion that it does not support PCL, only some Ricoh invention: RPCS which works badly with post script and there are problems even with printing PDF documents (although they may have already repaired it).
I am wondering about information about Samsung drivers. It seemed to me that the ink level determines the chip in the printer (based on the number of prints and not fatal wear), so I thought that if it works then the chip should block the printout and not the driver? Is it possible to add powder in the CLP-365W model without changing the chip and until it prints from windows will it work?

I add powder to the tanks of the Epson EPL 6100 printer. Old, but it prints well in "industrial" quantities. I did not find the option to add Samsung powders. The price for substitutes is acceptable to me and I use them. That's why I'm not playing with samsung chips.

In addition, Ricoh (SG 3100SNW, and other GC41 cartridges for which) are already available substitutes in Poland, the set of which goes online to buy for about PLN 300. It is about half the original price.
You have to pay attention to the type of cartridge you are buying - there are two sizes of cartridges: small for 600 pages and large for 2200 pages. Small ones are not worth buying, the more that the price difference is small, around 10 ... 15 PLN
