    Hello,

a few years ago I bought a lenovo g580, but recently I have been catching more and more problems with performance - disk wear is red, and this is louder than cooling :) Additionally, it crashed today and was difficult to move without a reboot.
I decided to run scan with VICTORIA and I can already see 23 bad sectors and scan is only half way through.
I'm afraid that, unfortunately, the disc is slowly moving away to the land of eternal overhangs.

Nevertheless, it's a pity to throw away the paw a bit because of the disc.
I would like to check if the rest of the components are worth replacing the disk.
    Here are the first questions:
    1. How to check the condition of the components in the pen?
    2. What drives can I replace the current drive with (I don't know what it looks like in the case of a laptop)?

    Other components:
    NVIDIA GeForce 710M
    Intel Core i5-3230M (2.6GHz)
    8GB RAM.

Second thing, what does the disk crash look like?
I mean, will she be able to pull another month or not?
Apart from this delay, it is working well and I was hoping it would last for a while.
(I have projects for studies on it, the semester is ending and my work is in turmoil, so I would not like to waste time before the end of the semester on shifting the entire system and configuring all environments). I created a repo on GIT for more important projects, but I'd rather ask what to expect in the next month.

    How should we know?
We do not know its condition, and the question of how long it comes from is not a forum, but rather a question for a fortune teller. :D
If you say that it has bad sectors and there is important data on the disk, make a copy of the disk.

    By testing with appropriate programs.

2.5 inch SATA disk, the capacity you need.

If you want to lose all your data, keep waiting.

Laptop worth replacing the disk, it is best to mount some SSD - there will be a noticeable difference in performance. There are a lot of SSD drives, there is to be a SATA connector, the capacity depends on the needs and the wallet.
One of the main problems of these laptops is the crumbling casing at the hinges - if everything is ok now, tighten the screws in the casing at the hinges. In this model, the components are rather durable and there are no spectacular faults of the motherboard.
As for a perishable disk - if you have important data, I suggest you make a backup of all important data. The disk may work a few more months and its condition may worsen tomorrow, and then only data recovery in the laboratory.

    Thanks for the answer.

Ok, any 2.5 sata drive is fine.
SATA III is also supported or only some individual versions (I or II?) (I'm asking because I prefer to be sure).

As for the relevant programs, I suspected so.
However, can you recommend any specific?

As for the data, I keep them in the repository, so if the HDD crashes, it will not be a tragedy.

Foldback, thanks for the information, I wanted to know whether the model is generally fail-safe or not.
I have already undressed it once, cleaning it from dust, and so far the housing is holding well, but I will take a look when replacing the disk, thanks for the advice.

Gentlemen, thanks for your continued interest, but I replaced the disc yesterday.
I wanted time because of the projects. I generally wish I had done it sooner.
The previous disc was for sata II, the current one for sata III is much faster (or maybe it just does not hit bad sectors :) ).
