    Windows 7 can warn you:

    Destination path too long
File names would be too long for the destination folder. You can shorten the file name and try again, or try another location with a shorter path.

I tested on a path containing 210 characters (counting with the drive letter, file name with the extension, the path contains Polish characters).

Windows 10, e.g. after entering a too long folder and when trying to open a document or copying it to the desktop, hangs Explorator. Without warning, you cannot open any folders later until you restart your computer.

    No OK, but in Windows 10 Home I won't run gpedit.msc :-(

Only that the Author is just as perceptive to use Google - https://www.google.pl/?gws_rd=ssl#q=windows+10+home+gpedit (not only the option given by you then can be found), as to provide the full version of the system.
Then only "grudge against grumpy ..."

    PS
For functionaries: Yes, I know - 3.1.13, but how many times can you look at such "helplessness" in the simplest matters? = What does it do here (instead of beginners).

    OKAY,
LongPatch entry in the registry made,
I also managed to add gpedit.msc in Windows 10 Home (admittedly it is in English in Polish windows but ok).

    The issue still exists.

I set up my home computer (Windows 10 Pro), connected to the company with a VPN and the same on my computer

After opening the file from a long path (for testing, a regular txt file opened with a notebook), modifying the file and saving the Windows Explorer window closes.

Tested on network resources shared by Windows and Synology NAS - in both cases the same.

If the entire resource is copied to drive C: - there is no problem.

Topic summary

The discussion revolves around the issue of long file paths in Windows 10, where users experience system hangs when attempting to access or copy files from directories with excessively long paths. A user notes that Windows 7 provides a warning for long paths, while Windows 10 does not, leading to Explorer crashes. Suggestions include modifying registry entries to enable long path support and using Group Policy Editor (gpedit.msc), although the latter is not available in Windows 10 Home. Despite attempts to resolve the issue, including registry modifications and testing on both local and network drives, the problem persists, particularly when accessing files from shared resources like Synology NAS.
