I have a problem with the ADF on the HP LaserJet 1536dnf MFP. I have looked through the forum posts and I already know that this is often a problem with the tape but I am not sure if my problem is the same as described there. Unfortunately, I have to scan a large number of documents and I took this HP LJ 1536 from a friend because it has been unused for some time (business closure). The equipment is generally in good condition and should be 100% operational.

I recorded 2 short videos with my mobile phone and I would ask someone to confirm / deny that it is a tape - maybe it is enough to clean some sensors etc. [movie: c43427f1a3] https://filmy.elektroda.pl/41_1487952154.mp4 [/ movie: c43427f1a3] At the attempt When using the ADF (copying / scanning), the feeder correctly detects the presence of pages, something in it also spins for a while but is not able to "draw" the materials. [movie: c43427f1a3] https://filmy.elektroda.pl/8_1487952202.mp4 [/ movie: c43427f1a3] After opening the cover where there are pressure rollers (in the upper part), I see that the white gear in the lower part is spinning for a while but it stops immediately and the error "Paper not picked up. Attach to doc / Press [OK] to continue" appears. In general, the rollers (in the upper flap) turn without any problems when you move them with your finger, but when the printer starts to feed the paper, I do not see them moving (of course with the flap closed :) ), they may be damaged.

I would be grateful for any suggestions.

Thoroughly wash the centrally (i.e. in the middle) rubber roller located in the tilted flap ... It is she who takes the sheet by turning it and moves it further.

I have encountered exactly these symptoms several times, the flatbed scanner electronics has always been a problem.

This is one of the worst HP models I have fought with in my time.

Is there any way to check it? (except for this top attachment, everything else works)

and here I have a question. This roll, in fact two rollers in the lid, are in two positions. Flat (then they do not touch the paper) and as if unfolded (then the first roll rests on the sheets of paper). By turning the rollers with my finger, I conclude that first the rollers should be hidden and after starting copying / scanning, etc., fall / slide onto the paper and pull it. For me, these skates are still in one position ...

Replace the entire flatbed or the electronics in it.

Exactly the device seems to be working. The printer part works, the flatbed scanner also works, unfortunately the ADF jams.
Replacing ADF never helped (I had 5 such cases). He was getting a ricochet from the crumbling scanner "floor" below. After moving the ADF to another device or replacing the flatbed scanner, everything returned to normal.

In general, it is necessary to replace the tape connecting the scanner with the formatter, it has always helped me. The original tape is probably not available - I had other devices from the demolition.

As I understand it, before I start looking for a tape or find that it is damaged electronics, I can simply check it with a multimeter because it may be damaged in the place of bending (opening the flap).

    Maybe there are micro cracks.

I just checked these 11-wire ribbon and the 4th and 5th pin are not working (or the 7th and 8th pin on the other hand). So it's possible my problems are from here. Now I have to consider the used tape or a new replacement - I would prefer a new part, but the replacements do not have these special reinforcements glued in sensitive places: / I will look for ...

A colleague has just given you the solution. The ADF strap is guided in the left hinge and breaks on the bend from repeatedly opening and closing the ADF. You will not get it as a dedicated spare part. I matched another 11-track at the supplier.

I bought the appropriate tape (as it turned out it was a few cm longer than the original, which did not bother me at all).
After replacement, the problem with the feeder was resolved. So I confirm that a damaged ribbon may be responsible for ADF problems - by investing several dozen zlotys and some time, we can have a fully functional multifunction device.

Topic summary

The discussion revolves around issues with the Automatic Document Feeder (ADF) of the HP LaserJet 1536dnf MFP, particularly concerning paper feeding problems. Users suggest that the common cause may be related to the tape connecting the scanner to the formatter, which can become damaged due to repeated bending. Solutions proposed include cleaning the rubber rollers, checking the functionality of the rollers, and replacing the damaged tape. One user confirmed that after replacing the tape, the ADF function was restored, indicating that the tape is a critical component in resolving these issues. Additionally, users discussed the possibility of micro cracks in the tape and the need for a multimeter to check for electrical continuity.
