    Hello,
I have a problem with the computer, i.e. with the "D" partition, but not with the entire one, the photo folder and only the oldest ones, e.g. summer 2012 or a trip to the mountains in 2013, it is about those after entering one of the old folders and viewing photos, you will find some damaged which will cause the laptop to hang on amen after the reset, it will reboot, but from now on it will hang even by anything, e.g. the chrome browser, until the new Windows is loaded again. The situation will repeat only when in the new Windows I re-enter the old photos on the partition, until I do that, everything flashes like a tralala.

Do you have any ideas on how to fix it? I will add that I care about the contents of this partition "D" because it is 30GB of memories ;)

    So don't tire the drive.
For starters, overwrite its SMART from bootable MHDD =>

Sectoral copy of partition D to a file and then data recovery.
    I recommend ddrescue for copy
    ddrescue to a file

    Data recovery.
    DMDE

    testdisk

    photorec

After data recovery, resetting the D partition may erase unstable sectors.

If you've done this, it may be difficult to recover your data.
You shouldn't use chkdsk on a damaged disk as it may be more harm than good.

I just wonder if chkdsk deleted some of the data. Sectoral copy first.

How do you cut bad segments from a disk and leave only the good ones? I will add that I do not care about files anymore

    Disk replacement was necessary

Topic summary

The user is experiencing issues with a corrupted folder on the "D" partition of their computer, specifically with older photo files that cause the system to freeze upon access. Various solutions were suggested, including running the command "chkdsk d: /f" to check for disk errors, using BadSectory for diagnostics, and employing MHDD for SMART data analysis. Recommendations for data recovery included using ddrescue, DMDE, testdisk, and photorec, with caution advised against using chkdsk on damaged disks. Ultimately, it was suggested that replacing the disk may be necessary if the damage is irreparable.
