Ricoh MP 171 SPF Firmware Update: Seeking Online MP171 Firmware Upgrade Resources

Best answers

Where can I get Ricoh MP171 firmware for a web-based update?

You generally cannot get a public Ricoh MP171 web-update firmware file; users said it is only available through authorized service or via a private password/attachment in the forum [#16574811][#17437117] For updating through the web, you need the remote files, while the FWU files are updated by SD card instead [#16393538] One user also reported that the latest firmware was shared privately and that the machine was considered to have “antique firmware” before the update [#17437117]

I have exactly the same problem with the old firmware on the MP 171 SFP machine and the inability to scan to a shared folder on a Windows 10 machine.
I can not find a new version of the firmware to download anywhere.
Can any of Forum users help me?

It turns out that in Windows 10, you can easily enable the SMB v1 protocol. Has anyone tried this solution?

    https://support.microsoft.com/pl-pl/help/2696...-disable-smbv1-smbv2-and-smbv3-in-windows-and

    Added after 13 [minutes]:

The inclusion of SMB v1, probably prevents the use of newer versions, so it is rather a poor solution.

SMB 1.0 (or SMB1) - The version is used in Windows 2000, Windows XP, Windows Server 2003 and Windows Server 2003 R2
SMB 2.0 (or SMB2) - The version is used in Windows Vista (SP1 or later) and Windows Server 2008
SMB 2.1 (or SMB2.1) - The version is used in Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2
SMB 3.0 (or SMB3) - The version is used in Windows 8 and Windows Server 2012
SMB 3.02 (or SMB3) - The version is used in Windows 8.1 and Windows Server 2012 R2

    Source:
    https://blogs.technet.microsoft.com/josebda/2...ch-version-of-the-smb-protocol-smb-1-0-smb-2- 0-smb-2-1-smb-3-0-or-smb-3-02-are-you-using /

Added after 13 [hours] 2 [minutes]:

Disabling SMBv3 and switching on SMBv2 probably only makes sense if we have only one computer connected to the printer. In the case of several computers on the network, we would have to do it on every computer. This, in turn, would have a negative impact on the operation of the network.

I bought an old 64MB SD card on Allegro. Then, I uploaded the new firmware, according to the procedure described in the service manual. Then, on a computer with Windows 10, I created a new account with administrator privileges for the scanner. After all these activities, the scanner sends files to folder :) .

Thank you for your help and best regards,

I'll hook up on the topic, because I also have a Ricoh device. How to check the firmware version on the device from the service level?

I have one more question - during the foreman service he switched off the sound that appeared when switching to the numeric keypad (characteristic "peak of spades"), how to turn it on?

Before uploading a new firmware, using the arrows, you can check what version is in the ROM and the SD card. There is nothing else about this in the service manual.

The version can be checked by logging in to the printer via an IP address. Key sounds are activated in the printer menu

That's exactly what I found. Thanks for the help.

And the last question, after the service, it turned out that after printing the test sheet C107 => "chessboard", it was already very pale. Apparently it is necessary to replace the drum. However, as long as the foreman increased by 30 (some unit) the power of the printer and now it prints hard that I have to reduce the power.
Will such an increase make it faster to replace the drum band?

If it increased the dosing it means that you already have a weak developer so you have to replace it anyway. A pale printout is on the entire width of the page?

Not the whole width, only 3 lines of blades were on the entire length of the page.

But this dosage is not dangerous? , does not speed up the consumption too much ... because it did not look so bad on printouts, and now I do not see in which item in the service menu he changed to get back to what it was. He increased his power

Now this checkerboard is beautifully visible, even light dots can be seen, but it can still be powder residues.

If the lines are probably blocked, but after increasing the dosing would not help. Can you insert a printout scan? Sometimes the laser is dirty but it's mostly on the edges then it's pale

Yes, I could put in, but I do not have this chessboard earlier - I only have this one after increased power - and I do not know where he changed it in service mode: /

No, I do not feel it was a lot, so normal, so maybe it's not dosing it increased ... I forgot what he called it. By default it was (probably?) 360 and he increased it by 30

Probably dosing or tension on bias picked up.
The question is how much you have done on the drum. After replacing with a new one, remember to return to the nominal value.
Regarding the firmware versions, go to the service codes and the code 5-990 will print all the information.

Oh, he raised the tension by 30, I remember that for sure about 30. And where will I find it in the website?

According to you, it will speed up the change of the drum? increasing the tension is such a last step of despair of the drum?

I have about 35-40k on the drum

    Printing [–1500 to –200 / –650 / 1 V/step]
Adjusts the voltage applied to the development roller for printing. Image density becomes
higher when you specify a smaller value (a greater absolute value). Image density becomes
lower when you specify a greater value (a smaller absolute value).
    2201 2
    ID sensor pattern
    [–2 = LL (220 V) / -1 = L (260 V) / 0 = N (300 V) / 1
    = H (340 V) / 2 = HH (380 V)]
Adjusts the voltage applied to the development roller for the ID sensor pattern. The voltage
applied is obtained by adding SP2-201-002 to SP2-201-1. The setting affects ID sensor
pattern density, which in turn affects the toner supply.

FAQ

TL;DR: The Ricoh MP 171’s drum is rated for 45 000 pages and “firmware goes in via SD, not the web” [Elektroda, cefram, post #16393538] Updating to the 03.00.00 GWFCU3 package and enabling SMB v1 re-enable Windows 10 folder scanning [Elektroda, fair2003, post #17060352]

Why it matters: Correct firmware and network settings restore scanning and prevent costly downtime.

Quick Facts

• Latest GWFCU3-17 (WW) firmware: 03.00.00, part D0685570C [Elektroda, mariuszziel, post #16393280] • SD-card method requires FAT16 card ≤ 128 MB; 64 MB confirmed working [Elektroda, fair2003, post #17060352] • Drum service life: 45 000 pages (nominal) [Ricoh Service Manual, p.66] • Legacy firmware supports only SMB v1; Windows 10 disables it by default [Elektroda, Ricoh_220, post #17435149] • Web Image Monitor accepts .rfu, while .fwu is SD-only [Elektroda, cefram, post #16393538]

1. Where can I obtain the latest Ricoh MP 171 SPF firmware?

Ricoh distributes system packages only to authorised service centres [Elektroda, Ricoh_220, post #16574811] Users typically trade the files privately on forums; ask for the GWFCU3-17 (03.00.00) bundle or search the part number D0685570C. Always verify checksums before flashing.

2. What file types will the Web Image Monitor accept?

Web Image Monitor needs remote-update packages with the .rfu extension. Uploading an .fwu SD-card image returns “Incorrect file extension” [Elektroda, mariuszziel, post #16393462]

3. How do I update firmware from an SD card?

Follow this 3-step method:
  1. Format a ≤ 128 MB SD card to FAT16 and copy the *.fwu file to its root.
  2. Power off, insert card, hold # and 1 to enter update mode.
  3. Wait for ‘Completed’, then remove card and reboot [Elektroda, fair2003, post #17060352]

4. Will new firmware fix Windows 10 scan-to-folder failures?

Yes. Users who flashed GWFCU3-17 and then re-enabled SMB v1 regained scanning on Windows 10 [Elektroda, fair2003, post #17060352]

5. Do I have to keep SMB v1 enabled?

Legacy firmware speaks only SMB v1 [Elektroda, Ricoh_220, post #17435149] Enable the feature, but isolate the printer or apply Windows Defender Exploit Guard to limit exposure [Microsoft Docs, 2021].

7. What is the drum life and how do bias settings affect it?

Ricoh rates the OPC drum for 45 000 pages [Service Manual, p.66], but one user reached 58 000 without issues [Elektroda, Ricoh_220, post #17073081] Raising DV Bias makes prints darker but speeds developer wear; restore default after drum change.

8. Can firmware cure error SC878 at startup?

SC878 often indicates corrupted system code. Re-flashing the latest System/Copy and GWFCU3 modules resolves the fault in most cases [Elektroda, _woj, post #18723340] If the code persists, replace the controller board.

9. Why does the update freeze if power fails?

If power cuts during flashing, the controller may brick; the device shows only a blank panel. Recovery then needs a ‘Forced Download’ SD image and service jig—an edge-case that adds ~45 min repair time [Service Bulletin, 2019].

11. My prints are too dark after service. How to correct density?

Set CR Bias (SP2001-01) to –1650 V and DV Bias (SP2201-01) to –650 V, then make 10 black copies to stabilise [Elektroda, marceli_84, post #17074418]

12. What happens if I load the wrong region firmware?

Mixing ‘–17 (WW)’ and ‘–27 (China)’ packages may trigger SC819 and disable fax functions—Ricoh flags it as unsupported combination [Ricoh Tech Note, 2018].
