    Hello.
I have a problem with the Asus X553M laptop.
A client came to me with a damaged motherboard. Apparently the laptop was flooded before and something burned. So I tested the memory and disk.
Memory and disk turned out to be functional, so I ordered and installed the CD. Everything works fine except the keyboard and touchpad.
When I enter the bios, the keyboard works. But as soon as the system boots, it immediately disconnects. I've tried everything. I started the laptop with the battery removed and the battery without power. I even started the bootable WinPEE system, and it doesn't work either. I also have a Mint Linux CD, I booted and opted out Linux and nothing else. Best of all, when I have the windows login screen and press the power button to enter sleep mode, after pressing any key the system restores, so the keyboard works when the system is asleep. I suspect that the reason is not some motherboard layout, but the keyboard. Maybe it causes a short circuit and that's why the system disconnects it. But I am not sure, so please help me solve the problem and thank you in advance.

Maybe try to install a clean system with drivers, we'll see what the effect will be. Rather, laptops do not protect themselves so that they disconnect the keyboard and touchpad.

under usb the mouse and keyboard work.
If this is the system's fault, it should work under linux linux. When installing the system, it also does not work, I have to have a USB keyboard and mouse connected. I will try to reinstall the system. I read somewhere that a function key can send a signal all the time, that's why it works in the bios because the function keys don't work there.

You haven't written anything regarding checking on a connected keyboard and / or touch only.

Nothing happens on the tocho or the keyboard itself.

I ordered a new keyboard with a touch and they don't work either. I reinstalled the system with a connected keyboard and mouse and nothing else.
Maybe it's the bios fault or the main board itself?

I will say Yes, it may be a matter of bios or the KBC system itself, but if it was a kbc system then the bios keyboard would not work. If there is a new system installed, then I would focus more on the motherboard itself. First, reprogramming the bios, if a friend wants it, I can look for a 100% functional because I have already repaired these motherboards.

I worked on such a problem in a similar Asus - only the key filter was to blame - and before I got to it was the third keyboard, the second touchpad, replaced KBC, reprogrammed KBC and BIOS.

Run the original system and check if you don't have a key filter icon next to your watch.
If not, install Keyboard Device Filter Utility and disable the filter.

I was flashing Bios too. I will check with the filter and let you know.

Everything indicates a motherboard defect. But I had to give my laptop to the customer. Also, thank you all for your help.

Topic summary

The discussion revolves around an Asus X553M laptop experiencing non-functional keyboard and touchpad after a motherboard replacement due to water damage. The keyboard works in BIOS but disconnects upon booting the operating system. Various troubleshooting steps were suggested, including checking BIOS settings, reinstalling the operating system, and testing with external USB devices. The possibility of a key filter being activated was raised, as well as concerns about the motherboard or keyboard controller (KBC) being defective. Ultimately, the consensus leans towards a potential motherboard issue, as multiple keyboards and touchpads were tested without success.
