Welcome to the Passat as in the subject I have a 588 error and the airbag indicator is always glowing. I thought the reason would be the ankle under the chair. I removed it, soldered the wires, but unfortunately the error is still there. Can anyone help me solve this problem?

Yes, I will help, what does the ankle under the driver's seat pillow have like it is in the steering wheel? In addition, such systems are not soldered. Give the car to someone who has no idea because you will still hurt yourself.

    Why not soldering?

See how the connector looks like it has a special jumper, you can throw pillows when soldering

In general, before soldering, the car stood with the battery disconnected 24 hours. So you say that the fault is on the side of the reel? In general, I was misguided by someone else.

So the cushion in the steering wheel from the seat is a small difference. Unplug the plug from the tape and see if the resistance is too low. If so, this is a 99% tape

As far as I am concerned, the break will be too high, when short-circuit it will be too short resistance.

    Right, too much coffee :)

Topic summary

The discussion revolves around a Passat B5 experiencing a persistent 588 error related to the airbag system, indicated by a constant airbag warning light. The user initially suspected a wiring issue under the driver's seat and attempted to solder the wires, but the error remained unresolved. Responses suggest that soldering may not be appropriate due to the risk of creating short circuits and that the issue could be related to the airbag connector or the steering wheel's airbag system. It is recommended to check the resistance of the connectors and ensure the battery was disconnected before any repairs. The consensus indicates that the problem may lie with the airbag tape or connector rather than the seat wiring.
