    Hello,
I read on the electrode that sulfated clamps on the battery are best protected with felt pads with oil.
The question is, will it be okay?

I gave felt not only under the clamps but also in place of vent. I sprinkled each felt with engine oil.

A request for comments, because I had such tarnished clamps and a corroded base that the massacre. Cleaned clamps with technical petroleum jelly, also as recommended. Now I know that it is up to 4 letters, but then I bought the cheapest and generally it is from the beginning, so I wanted to improve something ...

The vents must not be obstructed unless you have done it gently. Give nothing under clamps, all you have done is greased, nothing will happen.

This felt is rather acid-free Vaseline or Vaseline oil should be soaked ... nothing should fly out of the vent, if it flies, it is probably too high charging voltage.

Exactly, the voltage regulator is defective or the cell in the battery is short-circuited.

The felt is quite thick and just pressed, so if there is any more pressure, it seems to me that the gas will cope.

As for leaks, nothing can be seen on the battery, and the vents themselves were always clean and in total I do not know why these clamps are as dull as new. It certainly wasn't like that before.

Check the battery voltage before firing, then at high revs after firing.
Clean the clamps and housing with a soda solution to neutralize the acid.

The battery finally broke and I bought a second one.

However, until the very end, the clamps did not get any sleep, while the traffic jams were wet.
The voltage was correct, 14V regardless of speed.

    I close.

Topic summary

The discussion revolves around the issue of sulfated battery clamps and a corroded base. The user inquires about the effectiveness of using felt pads soaked in engine oil to protect the clamps. Responses indicate that while felt pads can be used, they should not obstruct battery vents, and the oil should be acid-free to prevent leaks. Concerns are raised about the voltage regulator and potential short circuits in the battery. The user later reports that the battery failed despite attempts to maintain the clamps, which remained dull throughout usage. Recommendations include checking battery voltage and cleaning the clamps with a soda solution to neutralize acid.
