    Hello,

I am asking you for help. I plugged a USB external drive to a Samsung TV in order to watch a movie from the drive on a TV. After disconnecting it and reconnecting it to my Windows computer, I want to format it. In the properties, I can see that the format has been changed from NTFS to RAW.

Is there any way to change back to NTFS to recover the data (about 500GB) I have there?

Please include a screen from SMART, e.g. from CDI or Hard Disk Sentinel to exclude damage to the HDD. In addition, I am asking for a screen from the DMDE program window partitions, current partitioning.

Go to Toshiba Ext in DMDE and check the content. If your data is there, check for errors in $ MFT, or use Linux live (on CD or USB flash drive) and enter the error code that appeared when trying to mount the partition. Some part of an important file system file is corrupted probably.

I don't know if that was what DMDE was about

how to view files with programs, e.g.
    Active @ recovery File
    m3 data recovery

both programs show that the data on the disk is there

But you entered $ Noname 02 and not Toshiba EXT in DMDE. You were supposed to go to Toshiba EXT and check the contents of $ Root. It still looks like an attempt to create a partition yesterday at 4:51 pm. Also provide messages from linux live as I wrote. Maybe the whole thing can be recovered, because if not, you will be left with recovery programs.

I downloaded the Active @ File Recovery program and with this program I was able to rip the necessary files from the disk.

The only question is whether the disk is fit for use after formatting or the situation that took place rather disqualifies the disk as damaged?

when it comes to linux live, I still managed to do this operation

Since you recovered important data (what you wanted) and you even want to format it, now you can even use chkdsk with a clear conscience and see if the data will be restored directly on the lost partition after using it. If you want to recover something else, it's best to use chkdsk as it is irreversible. I am writing this because I do not know the logical corruption in the current partition and I have not checked them. SMART is ok, probably disconnected from the power supply too soon, or some other situation.

after typing chkdsk option pops up message that it is a RAW drive and chkdsk option does not work: /

    unless I'm doing something wrong

This surprised me a bit, I must say, because in DMDE there are all pointers and $ MFT classes.0 is ok. If this is impossible, give the error code from linux live as I wrote. We'll see what still prevents chkdsk from being performed, which I don't know. There is probably another non-standard way, but it definitely goes against the rules of data recovery, so I probably won't even mention it ;) .

Topic summary

A user encountered an issue with a USB external drive that changed from NTFS to RAW format after connecting it to a Samsung TV. They sought assistance to recover approximately 500GB of data and restore the drive to NTFS. Responses included suggestions to use the DMDE program to check partition contents and errors, as well as recommendations for data recovery software like Active @ File Recovery. The user successfully recovered files but questioned the drive's usability post-recovery. Further advice included using chkdsk, although the user faced challenges due to the RAW status of the drive. The discussion highlighted the importance of checking SMART data and potential file system corruption.
