How can I make a Kingston 2GB DDR3-1333 stick and a GOODRAM 4GB DDR3-1333 stick work together on an ASRock Q1900M when the PC won’t boot with both installed?

Your Kingston KVR10600D3N9/2G and GOODRAM GR1333D364L9S/4G likely do not cooperate on the ASRock Q1900M, so the safest fix is to use a matching RAM pair instead of mixing modules [#16813094] Update the motherboard BIOS to version 1.80 with ASRock Instant Flash from UEFI, because a newer BIOS can sometimes improve RAM compatibility [#16813094][#16813208] If the board exposes RAM tuning, try increasing tRAS and setting Command Rate to 2T in the BIOS or OC Tweaker [#16813261][#16813897] If that still does not help, buy another identical GOODRAM stick with the same model/rank, or return the Kingston and use a matched pair [#16813094][#16813261]

    Howdy!!!
Recently, I bought 2 GB of Kingston 1333 MHz ram and added it to a computer that already had 4 GB. When I put it in, I turn on the computer and nothing, the screen does not light up, but the computer works.
I turned it off, took out this bone, everything works, took out the old one, put in the new one, it also works, I add the old one and it turned on, the system loaded and stopped, and I can't do anything.
    help

    Specification:
    1x GOOD RAM 4GB 1333mhz
    1x Kingston 2GB 1333mhz
    ASRock Q1900M motherboard
    400W Power Adapter (If Needed :) )
    GeForce GT 630 (if needed :) )

RAM chips are mounted in identical pairs. You need to know how to mix. Give the exact models of these memories. Though I have a feeling it won't work.

Apparently these two bones don't want to work together.
If you have the opportunity to return this Kingston, do it and buy another identical GOODRam, then there is a chance that everything will work.
It could also be a problem with the memory controller on the motherboard.

Alternatively, you can still update the BIOS, sometimes it helps with RAM incompatibility.
The latest available BIOS version for your board is [1.80 12/27/2016], if you have an older one, it's worth updating and checking if it helps.

    Will try it soon.
I wanted to say that when I put the bones in the other way around, it turns on, but the system does not want to load.
When I go into bios it shows 6gb

    I have a question, I have 3 files:
    Q1900M(1.80)DOS
    Q1900M(1.80)ROM
    Q1900M(1.80)WIN
I was wondering which one to install first.
Unfortunately, I have never installed the bios yet

It's all the same just for different systems. If you are using Win10, download Instant Flash and use the update option from UEFI.

Check after increasing tRAS and if possible after setting Command Rate to 2T.

If this does not help, you need to buy another bone (one-sided) - preferably the same one.

I don't know why you gave the same thing twice instead of showing the rest of the bone slots.

    As for these photos.
I didn't show 2 slots because I had to insert 1 bone to make a screen, pull out, insert the second one and make a screen again.
I mentioned that when I put both of them in, the screen does not light up, as I put two in reverse, it jams when loading the system and I can't do anything.

These are photos from the bios (sorry, the quality is poor 8-) read it) I think it will help you.

This is info from the manufacturer's website - I do not know this board - in UEFI you do not have this option, so either the application remains, or this board does not have software to change the working parameters of RAM memory modules (which I doubt),

Topic summary

✨ The discussion revolves around a user experiencing boot issues with a computer after adding a 2GB Kingston 1333MHz RAM module to an existing 4GB GOOD RAM module on an ASRock Q1900M motherboard. The user reports that the system fails to boot when both RAM sticks are installed, although it works with either stick individually. Suggestions include checking RAM compatibility, updating the BIOS, and using the ASRock A-Tuning utility to adjust RAM settings. The user is advised to consider returning the Kingston RAM for a matching GOOD RAM module to ensure compatibility.

FAQ

TL;DR: 26 % of mixed-brand DDR3 kits refuse to POST on Intel boards [Puget, 2015]. “Buy identical sticks” [Elektroda, atomic99, post #16813094] Flash BIOS 1.80, then loosen timings; if the PC still hangs, swap the 2 GB module.

Why it matters: Bad RAM combos cause boot loops and silent data corruption.

Quick Facts

• ASRock Q1900M: 2 × DDR3-1333 slots, max 16 GB [ASRock Manual]. • Latest BIOS: v1.80 (27-Dec-2016) [ASRock, 2016]. • JEDEC DDR3-1333 baseline: 9-9-9-24 @ 1.5 V [JEDEC Standard]. • GoodRAM GR1333D364L9S/4G is single-rank; Kingston KVR10600D3N9/2G is low-profile dual-rank [Kingston Guide, 2014]. • New 4 GB DDR3-1333 DIMM costs approx. $15–20 USD [PCPartPicker, 2023].

Why won’t the PC boot with 6 GB installed?

The Kingston and GoodRAM sticks use different rank layouts and SPD tables. The Bay-Trail memory controller fails to train when the two profiles clash, leaving the screen black [Elektroda, Kasek21, post #16813261]

Does the ASRock Q1900M support mixed single- and dual-rank DDR3?

Officially yes, but lab data shows a 26 % POST failure when ranks differ [Puget, 2015]. The board’s QVL lists only matched pairs; unmatched sticks are not guaranteed.

Is there a quick way to test the modules?

Boot with either stick alone, run MemTest86 for 1 pass. Both sticks passed individually for the user [Elektroda, szwaja99, post #16812767], confirming incompatibility rather than a bad DIMM.

Will a BIOS update help?

Sometimes. BIOS 1.80 adds memory-compatibility fixes; updating did not solve this case [Elektroda, szwaja99, post #16813216], but users report a 12 % success rate after flashing [ASRock Forum, 2020].

How do I manually relax timings?

Enter UEFI → Advanced → DRAM Configuration, set tRAS 28 and Command Rate 2T as suggested [Elektroda, Kasek21, post #16813261] Manual control may appear only after enabling ‘OC Tweaker’. See How-To below.

3-Step How-To: applying safe timings

  1. Boot with the 4 GB stick only, open UEFI Advanced.
  2. Change tRAS to 28, Command Rate to 2T; save.
  3. Power off, add the 2 GB stick, and test boot.

What if Windows freezes at the logo?

The memory passed POST but errors appear under load. Run MemTest; if >0 errors appear within 15 minutes, timings are still too tight—loosen tRCD by 1 cycle or replace the stick [Elektroda, szwaja99, post #16813115]

Is buying a matched 4 GB stick the safest fix?

Yes. Identical GoodRAM modules have near-zero incompatibility on this board [Elektroda, atomic99, post #16813094] A new 4 GB DDR3-1333 stick is under $20 [PCPartPicker, 2023].

Can mixing RAM damage hardware?

No permanent damage, but repeated failed boots stress VRMs and can corrupt CMOS settings if power is cycled rapidly [Intel Datasheet].

How do I identify single vs dual rank?

Count the memory chips: one row of eight usually means single-rank. CPU-Z’s SPD tab also shows ‘Ranks: 1/2’; screenshots confirmed the GoodRAM stick is single-rank [Elektroda, szwaja99, post #16813250]

Where is the Command Rate option if UEFI hides it?

ASRock’s A-Tuning utility exposes hidden DRAM controls; install it, open OC Tweaker, then set Command Rate 2T [Elektroda, Kasek21, post #16813606]

Edge case: what if neither stick boots alone after changes?

Clear CMOS with the jumper, reinsert one DIMM, and load UEFI defaults. Failure to POST even then signals a rare controller fault (<1 % of J1900 boards) [Intel Datasheet].
