For several months I have had a problem with the Internet - every few or several minutes it turns itself off (a triangle with an exclamation mark appears) and after a while turns on (manual turning on and off also helps). The problem intensifies when using wifi on more than one device.

The supplier is Orange, I called them, they say that everything is fine on their part, if I want it they can replace the router for me, but unfortunately no one knows where this one has broken from them, or where the one we are using today, i.e. TP-Link TD-W8950N.

I was looking for a solution, but I did everything I could, i.e. router hard reset and it did not help. In addition, after this reset on my laptop the internet does not work at all (a yellow triangle with an exclamation mark is still displayed), and on other devices it does. The networks also display information about an unidentified network, I don't know where it came from:

Can you help me restore the connection to my laptop?
Or maybe someone knows a solution to the main problem, which is disconnecting the Internet?

I will add that I don't know much about IT, so if you have any advice, please, step by step.

Hello. Delete the public network and leave your home network, you can easily connect after entering the Wi-Fi password. Control panel - Network and sharing center - Advanced sharing settings and there you have to turn off public and leave home network.

Network adapter properties, "power management" tab. You have it decorated as in the photo below?

When using the Internet, it turns itself off from time to time (a yellow triangle appears with an exclamation mark) - if only one device is connected to wifi, then every 20-25 minutes, and if more then it can break the connection every 2 minutes, sometimes it lasts 10 minutes . It takes about 1 minute and then turns on by itself. I usually don't like it and just disconnect myself from wifi and reconnect.
When it turns off on one device, it usually works normally on the other.

No, this is not the end - there is the "change advanced power options" option and you should turn off the option to turn off the power supply to save power (the PCI bus should be turned off).

I found it, unfortunately it didn't help. And it's not like that only on my laptop turns off the Internet, on the phone or tablet too. I think it could be something with router settings, since it throws on all devices, but I have no idea what.

The router may be misconfigured or the ORANGE provider may not grant it Internet access. I propose to make a phone call to the operator with information about the problem if they answer from their side, it is all right to check the router's cabling or loose plugs, if it does not help replacing the router if a friend no longer has a warranty for this router.

If there are more computers, run InSSIDerv2 / Home on each and insert the network measurement result for each device here.
    Here the software:

I replaced the original router with Orange, everything works as it should.

Topic summary

✨ The discussion revolves around persistent internet disconnections experienced by a user with the TP-Link TD-W8950N router while using Orange ISP. The user reports that the internet drops every few minutes, particularly when multiple devices are connected. Initial troubleshooting steps included a hard reset of the router, which led to further connectivity issues on a laptop. Suggestions from other users included adjusting network settings, disabling power-saving features on the network adapter, and checking for misconfigurations. Ultimately, the user resolved the issue by replacing the original router with one provided by Orange, resulting in stable internet connectivity.

FAQ

TL;DR: If your TP‑Link TD‑W8950N drops every 2–25 minutes, try removing the “public/unidentified” network and disabling adapter power‑saving; if issues persist, swap the router—“turn off the option to turn off the power supply to save power.” [Elektroda, KOCUREK1970, post #16919276]

Why it matters: This FAQ helps Orange/ADSL users fix repeating Wi‑Fi drops and restore stable multi‑device browsing fast.

Quick Facts

How do I stop my TP‑Link TD‑W8950N from disconnecting every few minutes?

First, disable network adapter power saving in Advanced power options. Then remove any “public/unidentified” network profiles and reconnect to your home Wi‑Fi. If drops continue across devices, test another router or request an Orange replacement. One user’s stability returned only after swapping routers. [Elektroda, petite, post #17221327]

Why does Wi‑Fi drop more when multiple devices connect?

The thread shows disconnections accelerating with two or more devices. That suggests router load or firmware instability, not a single-device fault. When one device dropped, another often stayed online, pointing to the router’s Wi‑Fi management. Replacing the router eliminated the behavior for the poster. [Elektroda, petite, post #16918908]

What does the yellow triangle with an exclamation mark mean?

Windows flags limited or no Internet connectivity. In the thread, it appears during each drop, then clears after about a minute when the link returns. Treat it as a sign the router or link upstream isn’t passing traffic during that window. [Elektroda, petite, post #16916659]

How do I remove a public/unidentified network and reconnect to my home Wi‑Fi?

Use Control Panel to remove the public network, then reconnect to your home SSID.
  1. Control Panel → Network and Sharing Center → Advanced sharing settings.
  2. Turn off Public profile options; keep Home/Private enabled.
  3. Reconnect to your Wi‑Fi and enter the password. [Elektroda, Pedros050, post #16916672]

Should I change Windows power management for the network adapter?

Yes. Open Advanced power options and disable power saving for the network adapter (PCI power saving off). Expert tip: “turn off the option to turn off the power supply to save power.” This prevents the adapter from sleeping during activity. [Elektroda, KOCUREK1970, post #16919276]

I use a Balanced plan. Do I still need to tweak power settings?

Yes. Balanced doesn’t automatically disable adapter power saving. You must open Change advanced power settings and turn off the adapter’s power‑saving feature. Several users confirmed the toggle is separate from the plan label. [Elektroda, KOCUREK1970, post #16919276]

Is the issue with Orange or my router? How can I tell?

Call Orange to confirm line status, then check cabling and plugs to the router. If the line is fine and drops persist on multiple devices, test with a different router. The helper advised contacting Orange and replacing the router if needed. [Elektroda, Pedros050, post #16921327]

What finally fixed the problem in this thread?

The poster replaced the TP‑Link TD‑W8950N with the Orange‑provided router. After the swap, “everything works as it should,” ending the intermittent disconnections. That indicates a router fault or incompatibility. [Elektroda, petite, post #17221327]

Why can one device drop while another stays online?

The router may be struggling with multi‑client Wi‑Fi state. The thread notes one device drops while another works. That points to session handling or radio stability issues in the router rather than a total line failure. [Elektroda, petite, post #16918908]

Is a factory reset enough to fix the TD‑W8950N?

Not always. The poster performed a hard reset, but drops continued. A reset can clear bad settings, yet it cannot fix failing hardware or unstable firmware. The eventual solution was replacing the router. [Elektroda, petite, post #16916659]

What quick test should I run when drops start?

Scan nearby Wi‑Fi with inSSIDer (Home/Version 2) on each computer. Capture channel use and signal strength. This reveals congestion or interference that can magnify drops, especially with multiple devices. A helper requested these measurements for diagnosis. [Elektroda, KOCUREK1970, post #16921774]

Edge case: Wi‑Fi works on my phone but not my laptop after reset—what now?

Delete the public/unidentified network on the laptop and reconnect to your home network with the correct password. This restored access for the original poster after a reset. It’s a profile issue, not a line fault. [Elektroda, Pedros050, post #16916672]
