    Welcome.
I got a not very interesting router as scrap, Huawei B390s-2. It probably comes from the country beyond the Oder, because all the inscriptions are in German. In addition, someone has already tried on it, because he has software loaded from the O2 network.

The router was successfully repaired, so it is a pity, despite its limitations (only 4G / 800MHz) to throw it on an electro-scrap.

I am able to log into the router. After inserting my PLAY card, the router displays all range bars, but the software displays info:

Connection Status: Connection failed, with error code of 48.

I am not sure if it is simlock or it is not possible to change APN settings. in the logs of this router there is only information about logging in via the web interface (successful or not), but there is nothing useful there. In general, there is little information about this model on the network, I have not found the meaning of error code 48.

Either way, the inability to change the cellular settings somewhat crosses the normal use of this device. Maybe someone has the correct software for this contraption?

According to the sticker on the case, it is B390s-2, the current O2 firmware is V200R001C40SP04.

Do you have any APN preview? There is a completely different APN in o2 than in Poland and it needs to be changed. As for the software, https://easy-firmware.com/index.php?a=browse&b=category&id=455. You have instructions in Polish for the multicast program, but for other routers. I think there are no big differences. Yes btw. then this link was a few seconds of searching. You have the firmware for Europe and multicast there. To work. I do not have this router, I also do not know if it works etc. but there is nothing to lose.

See if this router works with LTEWatchH and E5186 Toolbox 0.9 programs.

Thanks for the info. I also found this link after a few seconds of searching beforehand, but the software is probably corrupted. Or a flasher, but I checked a few versions.

By firing up the flasher and feeding it with the cpe.tar.bz file containing the entire update, he claims that he has not found the archives (as the warning is in Polish, it is probably a message from WinRAR, the path to which is given at the beginning).

After closing the message, there is already an error in the program:
It didn't include valid files in this tar.bz2 file.

The flasher can only flash part of the router or modem, so I unpacked modem.tar.bz2 and router.tar.bz2 from it manually and tried to feed them to the flasher (this solution worked for me earlier with B593), but unfortunately it does not work with this software.

I found it more useful than the main log generation for a diagnostic log, an APN named "turbo".

Huawei Toolbox does not work with this device.

It's lipton. From what I can see, the FW from T-Mobile has the option to change the APN, but you can't find anything for this router. If in fact the FW from this link is broken, it is bad. But it's a pity to throw it away, maybe someday it will be able to fire.

There is also the Huawei B1000 router, it was re-tagged for the Vodafone B390s-2. For now, I am at the stage of solving the problem with the Flasher. When I have some time, I will see if I can find a serial port, maybe I can "talk" with the bootloader. Alternatively, if there is even more time, I will see if I will be able to get a full flash from it - maybe I can analyze the content and draw some conclusions.

Interestingly, I can see that the router has space for two USB ports on the board. It seems that the general cargo at these ports is soldered (although I do not know if the set is complete). I also found a place for soldering 2x5 goldpins, maybe it is JTAG, but I have not done anything in this direction yet :)

Yes, in T-Mobile it was Speedport LTE, but it does not give us anything :D No FW anyway. The only hope is this easy-firmware.

Don't even waste your time on it because they won't go anyway. If no operator offered it via USB, it is not worth worrying about it, because there will be no support in the FW.

    Always something :)

Maybe not such a waste of time. In the B593 I had a poor version with plugs on the telephone ports in the housing. After uploading the normal firmware, these ports work flawlessly. Some devices of this type are able to use the USB-RS232 bridge, and since I have one on the FT232RL chip, I will solder these 4 pins, I will lose 5 cents and a minute of time by the way soldering 2x5 to a potential JTAG or whatever will be there.

Next to unused USB sockets there is a soldered NEC uPD720114 chip, and it is nothing else than a USB 2.0 HUB.

Flash, unfortunately, is type 29 (Spansion S29GL128N10TFI01), I do not have a programmer for such, and it is soldered in such a cruel place that I do not even want to try to desolder it and reassemble it. If I can read it and program it via bootloader or JTAG it's great, if not it's hard.

One more fun fact. The router has the option to update the firmware from the menu. But to make it easier, you cannot point to the file, you indicate the IP address of the update server. What the communication looks like for such an update - I don't know, but it might also be worth taking a look at if the official updater doesn't work.

    The topic was mastered.

It turns out that the flasher for these modems was made in the times when pterodactyls were still flying over our country. Therefore, regardless of the firmware uploaded to it, it will make a mistake if you have a new WinRAR. The WinRAR version you need to install is 3.80 (4.xx and 5.xx versions will not work, although it can unpack the same archive with the firmware in it). The problem may be with the same flashing software for similar routers, for example B593. Summarizing - the antique version of WinRAR will help in case of an error related to the delivered archive file, which ended with the message "It didn't include valid files in this tar.bz2 file" in the application.

The software I have loaded is not the latest but it is sufficient for my needs. It is from the Vodafone network, basically apart from the colors, it does not differ from the O2 software except for one small detail - you can set any APN in it. And that's enough. Error code 48 was related to the inability to connect to the network, fortunately it was not Simlock.

The router in the position of the plate hanging on the cables in the depths of the apartment pulled out DL: 20Mbps, UL: 10Mbps - there is no madness, but from poverty as a spare equipment it can be used for something. Maybe on the window and in the correct position, he will get a little more :)

Finally, two pictures from an already working router (with a PLAY card), in the attachments I will also put the firmware that worked for me (flasher also in the archive). The old version of WinRAR is available on Google, so I won't post it here, but you have to remember to use it.

Topic summary

The discussion revolves around the Huawei B390s-2 router, which the user acquired as scrap and is attempting to configure with a PLAY SIM card. The router is currently displaying a connection error (code 48), and the user is uncertain whether this is due to a SIM lock or the inability to change APN settings. Various responses suggest checking APN configurations, using specific software tools like LTEWatchH and E5186 Toolbox, and exploring firmware options from different providers. However, it appears that the Huawei Toolbox is not compatible with this model, and there are concerns about the availability of functional firmware. Some users propose hardware modifications, such as soldering connections for JTAG or USB-RS232, to potentially recover or modify the router's firmware. The conversation highlights the challenges of working with this specific router model and the limited resources available for troubleshooting.
