People where are we? On the technical forum or for lovers of contemporary art. Nonsense so damn it hits me. As a chemist and as an engineer.

You have to be careful with everything - it's best to make a gentle sample, I was washing the stickers with acetone from the windows and nothing happened with the plastic, but the nitro was dull.
Nothing will happen to the plastic, but the acetone will tarnish the varnish.

There is a dipentene in this spray. So the limonene racemate. And that is a shot in the ten!
I will not mention the idea with ether. Not only will it dissolve anything, it will also evaporate in two seconds.
The best remedy is dipentene or one of the limonene forms (dipentene is a mixture of the right- and left-handed forms of limonene). I suggest:

The PVC will not move and the glue will dissolve. Only do it with the window open, as you will smell like lemon for a month.

A colleague is talking about this medical measure? How did your colleague decode it? :)
This medicine didn't smell like lemon / orange at all, but something like gas and it evaporates very quickly.

I also had orange-smelling swabs from the same company, but it was a different, rather oily agent and didn't handle the glue very much.

But what gas? Oxygen, nitrogen, the so-called odorized city methane or LPG?

Something similar to LPG. Hard to say. Once I wanted to find the composition of this invention, I only found that it was some kind of technology based on silicone or something like that.

So logical an aerosol product. Does this dipentene have a smell?
I have already tried many measures, but this one really impressed me, that's why I kept the packaging. Unfortunately, the price deterred to use it for 50 ml stickers for PLN 20.

Limonene is used in most of these products. Are you here too? Probably yes, but probably something else because of its use.

The racemate has a less intense orange odor, but it depends on the concentration and what it is mixed with.

You can manually, you can use a screwdriver, I have passed the exam without any preparations, chemicals, etc. Used often in workshops to remove the remains of adhesive strips and the like, but it cleans many surfaces.
How to "dissolve" the old, "sponge" double-sided tape?

There are also small erasers for the nooks and crannies, for example 5 millimeters in the price of about 7 zeta

Hello everyone. Have you heard about purified gasoline? Works for stickers.

Maybe it works for stickers, but it doesn't remove what I had. The sticker from the old insurance will not come off the glass. I fought with oil for a long time, and cleaned with gasoline after the oil to stick the new one.

Yes telecaster. But you have to dissolve it with something. I have given suggestions. It's hard to handle. Mechanically there will also be traces.
Recently, I have been renovating my flat. Do you know what is best to deal with old wallpapers? Apply new ones.

Did you read the topic at all? Not lemon juice, but dipentene. A concentrated solution of dipentene in alcohol. This is the relationship. https://pl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Limonen

You're right. What I gave was chemistry. It can damage the PVC of the window. Just a colleague has to try. The foam should come off anyhow. Worse with glue.

No, it's not chemistry. These are chemical compounds.
By chemistry, I meant that different substances interact differently.
To dissolve such an adhesive, it is not enough to use just any organic solvent. First of all, the solvent may disturb the profile structure (varnished profiles may become dull), for example - acetone. Second, acetone is not a remedy for all contamination.
Secondly, the solvent cannot evaporate too quickly, because it will not dissolve anything - diethyl ether (in addition, the ether creeps across the floor and can ignite up to 5 meters from the bottle).
Third, it must dissolve, or at least swell, the glue.
There are two options. Or kerosene fractions from 6 to 8 carbon atoms (aliphatic and cyclic), toluene, benzene, xylenes and leaving it for some time, then scrubbing the resulting glue. Problem? Toxic and smelly.
Or limonene, gloves and a cloth. Advantage? It smells good and we will not drink it until we knock it, we will be safe. Disadvantage? We might get a rash on our hands.

The best agent for this type of adhesives is Fujifilm's NOVOGUM EXTRA roller cleaning fluid. I clean it and peel off practically everything. This preparation has become very universal. Moreover, it is tolerated by virtually any coating, both plastics and paints, etc.

There is also a mechanical method, it takes some effort, but it works. An old ATM card as a spatula and a ride.
I know two / three good products containing limonene. One by Kontakt Chemie is called Label Off, the other is a bicycle chain cleaner, Finish Line, and the name is Citrus Bike chain degreaser.

I think Fenwick's MAS24 foam should work well, because it stays on the surface for quite a long time, but personally I haven't dealt with it.

Label Off by Kontakt Chemie reacts with polycarbonate. I tested polycarbonate on boxes, so it will probably damage other materials as well.

I tested the Micro-Chip "label remover" on 4 different CD boxes - Nothing bad is happening. (Also polycarbonate)

    Both preparations contain limonene.

Please ... What does PC have to do with PVC? PVC is resistant to most organic solvents.

Since when are the CD cases polycarbonate? They would be more expensive than a CD. The boxes are made of Polystyrene.

Today I tried to remove the remains of the tape from fixing internal blinds from the PVC window frame. The residue was almost petrified and, unfortunately, in this case Sidolux did not help, trying to remove it with an old ATM card also did not work. Still looking for a proven way to remove tape residue.

I don't know if you really consider the chemist's advice irrelevant? How many times can I write this? Sure, it's better to write about alcohols, acetone or MAYONIA .
At most, gasoline will cause this glue to swell. The resulting slime will have to be scraped. Limonene is the only solvent that has a chance to dissolve it without damaging the window surface and not causing poisoning.
Do you want something else? Please. The methylene chloride will come off immediately. Except that the PVC from it will swell and we will destroy the window. Chlorobenzene will dissolve perfectly, it won't even damage the PVC, but I wouldn't want to open a CB bottle without a fume cupboard.

I don't let go and keep trying. I checked the old window "phthalic carbamide solvent", it does not damage the frame. The window test was very successful, tomorrow I am starting to remove the tape residue from the remaining windows.

    Hello,

I know that the problem was solved a long time ago, but maybe my method may be useful to someone.

A few days ago I had a similar problem as the author of the post and it turned out that the double-sided tape comes off very easily when scraped with a plastic scraper made of hard plastic (I made polycarbonate because I had it at hand), provided that the tape is first heated with a hair dryer or something similar.

Topic summary

The discussion revolves around the challenge of removing old, "sponge" double-sided tape residue from PVC window frames after dismantling roller shutters. Various methods and chemical agents are suggested, including alcohol-based solvents, acetone, isopropanol, and specialized adhesive removers like limonene and dipentene. Users share experiences with products such as WD40, nitro thinner, and specific adhesive removers from brands like 3M and Kontakt Chemie. Mechanical methods, such as scraping with plastic tools and using heat from a hair dryer, are also recommended. Caution is advised regarding the potential damage to window coatings and materials during the removal process.
