    Hello

I have a problem with installing Windows 10 on the SSD that was added to my laptop. I want to carry out a "clean" installation. I created a bootable pendrive with a system image and tried to install it on a new SSD - but when I try to install I get the error "No media driver required by the computer". I tried to download the drivers from the Acer support on the second pendrive and provide them when trying to install - no drivers found. From what I read, it is possible to "blend" the drivers into the ISO image of Windows, but for me it is a higher driving school ... So the question is - can you start the installation of the system on the second disk from the level of Windows 10?

Under the control of Windows USB is perfectly functional. I tried USB 3.0 and 2.0 - and lime.
My laptop is an Acer V5-591G. Without a DVD drive - I can only connect via USB ...
There is a similar topic on the electrode, but without any details.

    greetings

Yes, there are two physical disks - HDD from the factory and SSD added to M.2. Currently, Windows is installed on HDD. SSD is formatted on NTFS.
Currently installed Windows sees SSD as a "semi-hard drive" D: - so it probably recognizes it as a disk. Previously in the same configuration - the same computer with the same disks - it worked OK, but then the motherboard burned down and after replacing it is a meatball when trying to install the system on SSD.

Thanks for the link, I sit down and try this way. :)

    edit:
And the problem is - I can not set the "boot" partition on the SSD as active. I tried to use a apk Partition Magic to get around it - it does not want to run, spitting out the "Partition's drive letter can not be identified" error.

    Edit2:
I tried to create BOOT partitions on HDD - the same problem, I can not mark it as active.

And next? Because I already used this tool to create a bootable pendrive - only then came the problem with USB drivers, as I described in the first post.

I am a "basic" computer user and I do not fully understand what to do with this virtual machine. If I understand it correctly, I will launch the second Windows - and what will it give me? Will I be able to change the active disk? Would you then install the system on SSD?

I guess, however, it will be easier to upload USB drivers to the USB flash drive. Can anyone tell me which driver from the Acer support site to choose?

OK thanks. :) I will try to upload it to a bootable pendrive and see it. Because if I understand correctly, installing this driver from the Windows level will not change anything?

Finally, I did it differently - during burial I damaged Windows on HDD and had to reinstall it to run it. Luckily, I reinstalled myself as "naked", without the whole crapware from Acer. That is, as I wanted. Well, at that moment I could have it cloned into SSD, which I did with the help of EaseUS todo Backup. The final effect is and so far everything goes as fast as it should.

DriverMSG, SystemPL - thanks for the answers! :)

The work is done, so I close the thread. greetings

I cloned pure Windows from HDD to SSD - as above.

Topic summary

✨ The discussion revolves around the challenges faced while installing Windows 10 on a newly added SSD in an Acer V5-591G laptop. The user encountered an error stating "No media driver required by the computer" during a clean installation from a bootable USB drive. Despite attempts to provide drivers from Acer's support site, the installation failed. The user noted that the SSD was recognized as a secondary drive and had formatting issues, complicating the installation process. Suggestions included using Microsoft's installation tool, creating a bootable USB with the correct drivers, and utilizing a virtual machine to manage the SSD. Ultimately, the user resolved the issue by cloning the operating system from the HDD to the SSD using EaseUS Todo Backup after reinstalling Windows on the HDD.

FAQ

TL;DR: On an Acer V5-591G with 2 drives, Windows Setup showed "No media driver required by the computer"; fixes include recreating USB, loading storage drivers, or cloning. [Elektroda, Winston_Wolf, post #17323994]

Why it matters: This FAQ helps Acer V5-591G owners fix Windows 10 USB install errors fast and choose the safest path to an SSD install.

Quick Facts

  • Build fresh install media with Microsoft’s Media Creation Tool; target UEFI for modern systems. [Download Windows 10]
  • The “A media driver your computer needs is missing” prompt often means bad media or missing USB/storage drivers. [“A media driver your computer needs is missing”]
  • Thread hardware: HDD + M.2 SSD in Acer V5-591G; Windows saw the SSD as drive D:. [Elektroda, Winston_Wolf, post #17325166]
  • Pragmatic fix reported: clone HDD to SSD using EaseUS Todo Backup, then boot from SSD. [Elektroda, Winston_Wolf, post #17325933]
  • Suggested during Setup: “Use the SATA AHCI Driver.” [Elektroda, Anonymous, post #17325534]

How do I fix the “A media driver your computer needs is missing” error when installing Windows 10 from USB?

Recreate the USB with Microsoft’s Media Creation Tool. Try a different USB port and avoid hubs, preferably use USB 2.0. At the prompt, click Load driver and supply your storage or USB controller driver. If BIOS uses RAID/Intel RST, load that driver or switch to AHCI. If errors persist, rebuild the USB on another PC. [“A media driver your computer needs is missing”]

Which driver should I load for an Acer V5-591G during Windows Setup?

Load the storage controller driver. For this model, the practical tip was: “Use the SATA AHCI Driver.” If BIOS is set to RAID/Intel RST, use the vendor’s RST driver instead. Put the extracted driver on a second USB and click Load driver. [Elektroda, Anonymous, post #17325534]

Can I start a clean Windows 10 install to my SSD from inside my current Windows 10?

Yes. In Windows, run Setup.exe from the USB or mounted ISO. Choose Custom install and select the SSD as the target. Setup will reboot into the installer and continue outside Windows. Back up first. Booting from the USB directly remains the most reliable method. [Install Windows 10]

Why can’t I set my SSD partition “Active” on this laptop?

On UEFI/GPT systems the Active flag is not used. Windows creates an EFI System Partition and handles boot files automatically. In Setup, delete the SSD’s partitions and let it recreate them, or convert the disk to GPT before installing. [UEFI/GPT-based hard drive partitions]

How can I clone my existing Windows from HDD to the new SSD?

Cloning is a straightforward workaround. Do this:
  1. Boot Windows on the HDD and update it as desired.
  2. Install EaseUS Todo Backup (or similar) and choose Disk/Partition Clone.
  3. Clone HDD to SSD, then set the SSD first in BIOS. This produced a working, fast system for the OP. [Elektroda, Winston_Wolf, post #17325933]

Does cloning help me avoid Acer preinstalled software?

Yes, if you first clean-install Windows without OEM apps, then clone. The OP reinstalled a “naked” Windows on the HDD and then cloned to the SSD. The result was a clean, fast setup on the SSD. [Elektroda, Winston_Wolf, post #17325933]

Should I use USB 2.0 or 3.0 ports for Windows 10 setup on this model?

Either can work. If you see the missing-driver prompt, switch ports and avoid hubs. Prefer a direct USB 2.0 port when troubleshooting early driver loading. Recreate the media if the error persists. [“A media driver your computer needs is missing”]

Where do I get the right Windows 10 image and make a bootable USB?

Use Microsoft’s Media Creation Tool and select Create installation media. Target a USB stick and format it during creation. Use an 8 GB or larger USB drive for reliability. This delivers a current image with proper UEFI boot files. [Download Windows 10]

Can I load drivers from a second USB during Windows Setup?

Yes. When the prompt appears, click Load driver. Point to the folder with the extracted .inf files for your SATA/AHCI or USB controller. Keep drivers on a separate USB stick for clarity and access. [“A media driver your computer needs is missing”]

Is using VirtualBox to install Windows onto the SSD a good idea?

VirtualBox can map a physical disk with raw access, but that is advanced and risky. It is unnecessary to fix this installer prompt. The suggestion appeared in the thread, but the successful resolution did not use virtualization. [Elektroda, Anonymous, post #17325426]

Windows sees my M.2 SSD as D:, but setup still fails. What should I try?

Boot the installer in UEFI mode. Choose Custom install, select the SSD, delete existing partitions, and continue. This ensures proper boot partitioning on the SSD. If the error returns, recreate the USB or load the storage controller driver. [Install Windows 10]

What if new media and drivers still don’t work on my Acer V5-591G?

Clone the working HDD to the SSD as a fallback. The OP achieved a clean, bloat-free system using EaseUS Todo Backup. After cloning, set the SSD first in BIOS boot order to boot from it. [Elektroda, Winston_Wolf, post #17325933]
