Hello again - I removed the EGR valve (exceptionally for the astra it was on top), cleaned it from carbon deposits, but unfortunately it did not do anything. I went to an electrician and he clearly found that the valve was damaged (valve made in japan, non-regenerative). The new valve costs PLN 780. I have a question about the valve - if the valve is closed, the exhaust gases go directly to the exhaust or vice versa. According to the electrician, my valve is permanently closed, which means that all the exhaust gases go to the muffler and it should be ok, but it's not ok because the engine has no power and still burns too much - please let me know.

Do not count on the fact that the 2011 diesel will go without EGR, the power is limited because it is supposed to be like that.

You asked what a closed EG will give you. After reading, you should know that nothing.
Buy an EGR and it'll be over. As mentioned above, you cannot drive with impunity with a car from this year without the ECU.

I changed the EGR and everything is back to normal. I wonder what the next expense awaits me - lambda probe or diesel particulate filter? - As I heard the Astra with 1.7 engine was not Opel's best idea and quickly started producing 1.9 - cheaper parts and greater reliability.

Topic summary

The discussion revolves around the EGR (Exhaust Gas Recirculation) valve failure in a 2011 Opel Astra H 1.7 CDTI. The user initially cleaned the EGR valve but experienced no improvement in engine power. An electrician diagnosed the valve as damaged, indicating it was permanently closed, which led to excessive exhaust gas routing and poor engine performance. The cost of a new EGR valve was quoted at PLN 780. Responses emphasized the necessity of replacing the EGR valve for proper engine function, as operating without it would limit power and could lead to further issues. After replacing the EGR valve, the user reported a return to normal engine performance and expressed concerns about potential future expenses related to the lambda probe or diesel particulate filter, noting the Astra's reputation for reliability issues with the 1.7 engine compared to the 1.9 variant.
