    Hello
I have such a problem. I used the phone for over a year, 2 weeks ago I bought a new phone and it went to the drawer, there were never any problems with the phone. Practically from the beginning it had a crack in the glass, but it did not bother anything and everything worked. To my surprise, I took out the phone today with the idea of taking photos and putting it on sale and the phone does not turn on, nor does it respond to the connection of the charger. I don't know if it has anything to do with it, but before throwing it into the closet, I performed a factory reset and then turned it off. The phone was with tmobile and is under warranty until February 2019. I was in tmobile today, but I was informed that due to the fact that the screen has a crack, the service will have to repair it (because when removing the phone, it will definitely break all the way) no matter what inside broke down and I will have to pay about 700 PLN for this repair. what do you advise what can i do? is there any point in repairing it then? or throw it in the trash? :)

Describe and display on the Allegro. Because if it were not for the crack, it could be repaired under the warranty.

Over half an hour and nothing, no reaction. Tel and cold charger. When I turned it off 2 weeks ago, it had 60%

    Added after 2 [minutes]:

And I can not give back and mark the screen not to repair only what is broken inside? Such a repair is 150-200, not 700. Or just made an expert opinion?

Well, you see, there is a risk of complete damage to the LCD when disassembling it. And an expert opinion without opening it, it may be a damaged motherboard or battery .... Leave it connected to the charger until tomorrow. Maybe the battery will "wake up" to life.

Ok I will. The spider is only on the glass, the touch and the LCD was not touched.

You need to recharge the battery outside the phone. To remove the batteries, you have to disassemble the entire phone.

Still connected all night, no reaction. When I give up a guarantee, can I give it only for the expertise? and that, for example, they would call how much the repair will cost and if I do not agree, they would send it back in the condition it is? The phone is worth around 700, so it misses the point of repairing the screen for 700-800 on the site, since something inside does not work anyway (probably the motherboard)

In order to make an expert opinion, they still have to disassemble the phone, which is associated with its further damage.

I am aware of this, but today the phone is still in the bin. After an expert opinion, can I refuse to repair a broken glass?

Then you will get a phone without a screen and what will you do with it?
Even the website will not test it without a screen. Then go to the regular GSM service, maybe they can do something there.

If you have the option, recharge the battery in another phone

The battery is BUILT-IN - it will not get into it without taking the phone apart.

How do they want to damage the screen when taking apart? It puzzles me a lot, after all, to disassemble this phone and remove the disc does not interfere with the LCD too much. It is a very simple operation.

Topic summary

✨ The discussion revolves around a Samsung Galaxy A5 2017 that has stopped turning on after being stored for two weeks. The user reports a cracked screen but states that the phone was functioning well prior to this issue. They performed a factory reset before the phone ceased to respond to charging. The device is under warranty with T-Mobile until February 2019, but the user was informed that the cracked screen would necessitate a costly repair of approximately 700 PLN, regardless of the internal issues. Participants suggest various troubleshooting steps, including leaving the phone connected to the charger for an extended period and considering an expert opinion on the internal damage. Concerns are raised about the potential for further damage during disassembly, and the user contemplates whether they can refuse the screen repair after obtaining an expert assessment.

FAQ

TL;DR: 24h on charger and "Maybe the battery will 'wake up'" can revive an A5 2017; if not, diagnostics require disassembly that risks the cracked screen. For owners facing no‑power A5 2017 with cracked glass, here’s what to try and expect. [Elektroda, sylweksylwina, post #17416187]

Why it matters: This FAQ helps A5 2017 owners choose between simple recovery steps, paid service, or selling as‑is.

Quick Facts

Why won’t my Galaxy A5 (2017) power on after two weeks in a drawer?

The phone may need extended charging to recover from storage. Connect a reliable charger and leave it until tomorrow. As one tech wrote, "Maybe the battery will 'wake up' to life." If it still shows nothing, suspect the battery or mainboard. Avoid opening it yourself if the screen is cracked. [Elektroda, sylweksylwina, post #17416187]

How long should I leave a non‑booting A5 on the charger?

Give it a long, uninterrupted charge. Leave it connected until tomorrow before retrying the power button. If nothing changes after that window, proceed to diagnostics. [Elektroda, sylweksylwina, post #17416187]

The phone and charger stay cold after 30 minutes—what does that suggest?

After 30 minutes, a cold phone and charger indicate no immediate charging response. Continue with an overnight charge as suggested. If the state remains unchanged afterward, seek professional diagnosis. [Elektroda, cherynski, post #17416174]

Does a cracked screen affect my warranty claim with T‑Mobile/Samsung?

Yes. Visible glass damage can block warranty handling of unrelated faults. One responder noted it would be covered if not cracked. Expect paid repair paths when the screen is cracked. [Elektroda, sylweksylwina, post #17416156]

Will the service insist on replacing the screen before diagnosis?

Yes. The provider warned the cracked glass would fully break during teardown. They required screen replacement first, quoted about 700 PLN. This comes before checking internal faults. [Elektroda, cherynski, post #17416062]

Can the LCD get damaged during disassembly even if only the glass is cracked?

There is a real risk. A tech cautioned about complete LCD damage during disassembly with cracked glass. That risk is why services push display replacement before testing internals. [Elektroda, sylweksylwina, post #17416187]

Can I request diagnostics only and refuse the screen repair?

You can ask, but diagnostics still require disassembly. The service stated an expert opinion needs opening the phone. With a cracked front, opening can cause further damage, including display failure. [Elektroda, nutergsm, post #17416627]

What happens if I refuse the screen repair after they open it?

They may return it without a working screen. One tech warned you could get a phone without a display. They also noted the service cannot test the device without a screen attached. [Elektroda, sylweksylwina, post #17416782]

Can I recharge the A5 (2017) battery outside the phone?

Yes, but it requires disassembly and proper tools. "You need to recharge the battery outside the phone." The same expert added the entire phone must be disassembled to remove the battery. Seek a competent GSM shop for this procedure. [Elektroda, nutergsm, post #17416196]

Can another phone charge the A5’s battery?

No, not directly. The A5 has a built‑in battery, inaccessible without disassembly. You cannot swap it into another phone to charge. A shop can access it safely if needed. [Elektroda, sosarek, post #17417276]

Is repair economically sensible if the phone’s worth ~700 PLN?

It is not economical in this case. The owner valued the phone near 700 PLN. The service display quote was 700–800 PLN, before any board repair. That math argues for selling or recycling rather than full repair. [Elektroda, cherynski, post #17416377]

How do I try a safe, no‑parts recovery at home?

Try this before any teardown:
  1. Connect the phone to a charger and leave it until tomorrow.
  2. Check for any vibration, logo, or charging icon.
  3. If still dead, avoid opening; seek diagnostics at a GSM service. "Maybe the battery will 'wake up' to life." [Elektroda, sylweksylwina, post #17416187]

Could the factory reset before storage cause this no‑boot?

Unlikely. Contributors pointed to hardware causes: battery or motherboard. No one linked the factory reset to the no‑power state. Focus on charging and hardware diagnostics first. [Elektroda, sylweksylwina, post #17416187]

Should I sell the phone as‑is instead of repairing?

Yes, that can be practical. One member advised describing the faults and listing it on Allegro. Buyers of parts or repair shops often accept cracked, non‑booting devices. [Elektroda, sylweksylwina, post #17416156]
