Good morning, I have a problem with the socket in the bathroom. From time to time it makes a popping sound (like a light bulb when it burns out). Is it serious ? A gas boiler is plugged into the socket.

Poor contact/high power consumed by the gas boiler.
All that remains is to remove the front panel of the socket and check if there is anything sooty/burnt.

Maybe you have loose wires in the socket. Check the socket.
    Ps. I was late.

There was an electrician, he checked and replaced the socket with a new one, the other one was cracked and old. After he left, the sound of the socket shot was heard again. Generally, the building dates back to the 1950s. What now, gentlemen? Call a specialist again?

The electrician didn`t mention anything about the condition of the apartment`s electrical installation?

Since the building dates back to the 1950s, the installations are probably in Bergman tubes.
Maybe this "shot" is transmitted through a pipe from a plastered junction box.

He mentioned that it was old and that it was falling apart in the next room because the socket was sparking. He didn`t mention the bathroom, but they were plugged into one wall and under the same fuse. I called him to say it had shot again and he was surprised. He`ll come back to check on Monday. I`m worried something will happen to it by then.

If this is your apartment, unfortunately, the electrical installation should be repaired.
Whether it is enough to replace the cables or whether some modernization of the electrical installation will be necessary must be assessed by a specialist.

I rent the apartment, so the decision will not be up to me. Well, I hope nothing bad will happen until it`s fixed.
Thank you very much for your answers. You gentlemen are invaluable.
If the matter is resolved, I will tell you what was the cause.
    Regards.

Topic summary

The discussion revolves around a popping sound emanating from a bathroom socket where a gas boiler is plugged in. Initial suggestions point to poor contact or loose wiring as potential causes. Concerns are raised about the seriousness of the issue, with warnings about possible electrical shock or fire hazards. After an electrician replaced the old, cracked socket, the popping sound persisted, leading to further inquiries about the overall condition of the apartment's electrical installation, which dates back to the 1950s. It is suggested that the electrical system may require modernization or repair, particularly if it is using outdated materials like Bergman tubes. The author expresses concern about the safety of the situation while awaiting further inspection from the electrician.
