    Hello everyone,
I have been using the Technicolor EPC3949 modem provided to me by Multimedia recently and I have a problem with it.

The speed of the internet is 150 Mbps and this is also achieved by smartphones, TV, Xbox via wifi and laptops connected via a cable.

However, when connecting a laptop via wifi, it follows the 802.11a protocol, instead of 802.11n or 802.11ac, so the maximum internet speed is a maximum of 24 Mbps.

    Technicolor EPC3949 - only 802.11a connection despite n / ac support

And both the laptop and the modem support 802.11n and 802.11ac standards ...

    modem specification in the attachment

specification of the card in the laptop:
    Technicolor EPC3949 - only 802.11a connection despite n / ac support

And when it tries to exclude the 802.11a standard from the network card, the laptop connects via 802.11g at 2.4 GHz, which makes the result even worse.

I would like to add that when I provide wifi from the modem via a hotspot on the phone, the laptop connects easily via 802.11n on 2.4 GHz and the Internet speed reaches 50 Mbps:

    Technicolor EPC3949 - only 802.11a connection despite n / ac support

Does anyone know what the problem may be and how can I get closer to the 150 Mbps sold by the operator?

I would like to add that the laptop is MSI GV72 8RE with Win10, as the modem is from Multimedia, I cannot configure it, except for changing the network name and password, and I measured all speeds several times via speedtest.net/pl

Thanks in advance for your answers!

    The Wireless mode 802.11a / b / g parameter is of course set to Dual Band 802.11a / g or Dual Band 802.11a / b / g?
Channel Width for 5GHz to Automatic?

Of course it is - the laptop with a hotspot from the phone connects as needed, the phone with the router also connects as it should, only the laptop with the router can't do something ...: C

Are your encryption well set up?
Destroy all remembered networks related to this router from the laptop and re-establish the connection.
Give what the command spits out:
    netsh wlan show interfaces

Unfortunately, the reset didn't change much ...

As for encryption, I have little room to show off here, because Multimedia allows you to configure its router modems only through the ebok website and is limited to absolutely basic settings:

    Technicolor EPC3949 - only 802.11a connection despite n / ac support

I crashed all the networks, and as for the command prompt, it spits out something like this:

There is 1 interface on the system:

    Name: Wi-Fi
    Description: Intel (R) Wireless-AC 9462
    GUID: 2cfcdd27-6c53-478b-bf30-ecd3e15b34d8
    Physical address: 1c: 1b: b5: d8: 13: 1e
    State: connected
    SSID: multimedia_Bagman
    BSSID: 10: 05: 01: 69: 3c: 48
    Network type: Infrastructure
    Radio type: 802.11a
    Authentication: WPA2-Personal
    Cipher: TKIP
    Connection mode: Auto Connect
    Channel: 36
    Receive rate (Mbps): 54
    Transmit rate (Mbps): 54
    Signal: 99%
    Profiles: multimedia_Bagman

    Hosted network status: Not available

    There is nothing to scan.
TKIP is set, which forces the use of 11g / 11a mode.
Either Windows remembers that and you have to throw out old entries and recreate the connection, or the router has changed this way - this is probably the contact with the operator.
Technicolor had a bug where after using the 11a mode in the configuration and returning to 11ac mode, it was left with flowers such as forcing the channel width to 20MHz.

    @Nagus
Thanks a lot for the tip!

I cleared the list of available networks and instead of creating a new connection automatically through the list of available networks, I added the network manually, set the security to WPA3 and it flashes elegant!

Interestingly, now even after deleting the network again and creating a new connection automatically from the list, everything works as it should :)

Again, thanks a lot, I probably wouldn't have figured it out myself :)
    Regards and I close

Topic summary

The discussion revolves around a user experiencing connectivity issues with the Technicolor EPC3949 modem, specifically connecting a laptop via Wi-Fi only using the 802.11a protocol, which limits the speed to 24 Mbps despite the modem and laptop supporting 802.11n and 802.11ac standards. Various troubleshooting steps are suggested, including checking wireless mode settings, resetting the modem, and ensuring proper encryption configurations. The user ultimately resolves the issue by manually adding the network with WPA3 security, which restored the expected connection speeds.
