Audi Q5 2015 Rear LED EU Lamps: US-EU Coding and Hatch-Dependent Light Settings

rams 56400 59
Best answers

How do I code Audi Q5 rear EU LED lamps so the rear parking lights turn off with the hatch closed and the hatch lamps work correctly?

Use the corrected module 46 tail-lamp coding; the solved set changed the rear marker channels to 209 = 0 and 210 = 32, with the rest of the tail-lamp values set as 195 = 51205, 196 = 51237, 197 = 51212, 198 = 51244, 199 = 10247, 200 = 10279, 201 = 14855, 202 = 14887, 203 = 9, 204 = 41, 205 = 13, 206 = 45, 207 = 51201, 208 = 51233, 211 = 51214, and 229 = 51400 [#19039070] This was posted as the working tail-lamp coding for the 2015 Q5 after the original values caused the unwanted rear-light behavior [#19039070] If you still have the lower bumper indicators flashing with the turn signals, another reply says that part is disabled in 09-Central Electrics by changing the marker settings there [#19039070]

I have a 2015 Audi Q5 rear LED EU lamps. I have done the coding of the US - EU lamps, the lamps work properly only I have one problem. I light all the time the lamps from the "parking lot" they should be off when the hatch is closed, and when the hatch is open the lamps on the hatch should come on and go off. I don't know where to set this.

My coding in the comfort module 46
channel number - old value/new value, lamp name
    195 - 51206/133, left stop
    196 - 51238/165, right stop
    197 - 51206/12, left rear turn signal
    198 - 51238/44, right rear turn signal
    199 - 10247, parking lot ext. left
    200 - 10279, parking lot ext. right
    201 - 14855, parking lot ext. left
    202 - 14887, ext right parking
    203 - 9, left fog
    204 - 41, right fog
    205 - 13, left reverse
    206 - 45, right reverse
    207 - 51201, left rear outline
    208 - 51233, right rear outline
    209 - 51219/0, left rear marker
    210 - 51251/32, right rear marker
    211 - 51214, backboard illumination
    229 - 51400, stop up.

    Hello
change the settings of channel 209 to the original value of 51219,and channel 210 to the value of 51251 u is such and works properly.
according to your coding turn signal with stop is swapped, check if they work properly for you.

This is how I solved it. Here you have the correct coding for the tail lamps.

    195 - 51205, stop left
    196 - 51237, stop right
    197 - 51212, left rear turn signal
    198 - 51244, right rear turn signal
    199 - 10247, parking wew left
    200 - 10279, parking lot ext right

    Added after 15 [minutes]:

No need to rework. Only you need to change the coding in 09-Centr. Elect to disable the markers. Here you have exactly how to do it https://www.audiworld.com/forums/q5-sq5-mki-8...various-lighting-drl-options-2014-q5-2855281/

I've already figured it out. The separation of foot and direction is done in the coding, so it doesn't require anything to be changed in the adaptations

VW Jetta MK6 2017. Problem with coding lamps from US to European version. I am referring to the LED tail lamps, I already have the second European lamps.
After coding the BCM PQ35 outputs by VCP, it gets a Christmas tree and there is no stop at all.
    Anybody can help?

I dug into the topic a bit but I have a 2014 US Q5, the rear lamps have been redone, I used this coding and everything works as expected except that I have a bubble with the third stop light. It doesn't work with the feet but only turns on with the position lights. That is, when I turn on the positions/passing lights, the stop in the spoiler lights up with a continuous light. When I turn off the lights it goes out but does not work when I press the brake. The stops in the lamps work properly.
Anybody knows what could be going on here?

The only thing I can help you with is to check with yourself what you have in the long encoding... channel 09 and byte 18 - in my case after the change it is 01100110.
Save your own before editing and give it as in my case..if something didn't go right you can go back to what you had
A computer screen with the VCDS program open, displaying controller coding on channel 09 with byte 18 highlighted and set to binary value 01100110. .

    Hello everyone.
I bought an Audi Q5 2016 from Canada, I changed the rear lamps, I swapped the pins in the upper ones (red and yellow), I did the coding according to the corrected one and everything works properly except the lower lamps.
In the lower lamps, the turn signals are lit together with the parking lights. This means that when I turn on the parking lights, the parking lights and turn signals are on, and when I turn on the hazard warning lights or the turn signals with the parking lights turned off, the turn signals and parking lights flash. When I press stop, the same lights also come on, i.e. the parking lamp and the turn signal. Unless I'm confusing the parking light with the brake light. So I'm posting a photo of the lights shining
Image of the rear part of a 2016 Audi Q5 showing a tail light issue.
Can anyone tell me how to separate it?
Let me tell you right away that I have checked the coding several times and there is no error
The fog lamps in the lower lamps also work properly
And one more thing. Shouldn't only the overhead lights be on when the hatch is closed? Because both the upper and lower ones are on, so maybe there is a problem with the flap closure sensor? It does not show any error on the display or in VCDS.

Is it necessary to change the red and yellow pins? I bought lamps from a car from the states, converted to EU, the pins were unchanged and they worked.
My question is whether the pins are the reason - When the lights are on, the brake light on the flap lights up with the turn signal/When the lights are off, it blinks together with the turn signal.
You will advise what and how

If the lamps are US and modified, you do not need to replace the pins. If you buy EU, you need to replace them, at least in Depo lamps.
As for your problem, it looks like bad coding. Did you code according to this corrected coding?

    I have coding 2.
All I had to do was get rid of the flashing lights in the bumper. The position may be lit, but it blinks with the direction.

Topic summary

✨ The discussion centers on coding and adaptation challenges when converting 2015 Audi Q5 rear LED lamps from US to EU specifications, particularly regarding the behavior of parking lights and hatch-dependent lighting. The main issue is that parking lights remain on continuously instead of turning off when the hatch is closed, and hatch lamps do not activate correctly when opened. Coding adjustments in the comfort module 46 channels are critical, with specific channel values provided to separate turn signals from stop lights and to disable or enable rear marker lights. Correct coding values for channels 195-210 and others are shared, including recommendations to reset channels 209 and 210 to factory EU values to resolve parking light issues. Disabling lower bumper lamps blinking with turn signals is a recurring problem, often addressed by coding changes in central electronics (module 09) and comfort module 46. Some users report that pin swapping in lamps is unnecessary if proper coding is applied, while others note that certain aftermarket lamps (e.g., DEPO) may require additional coding or physical modifications. The use of VCDS or VCP tools for coding and adaptation is frequently mentioned. Related topics include front lamp coding for asymmetry and inspection compliance, with some users reporting successful recoding without physical lamp changes. The discussion also touches on similar coding issues in other Audi models (Q3, A3, A6) and model years, emphasizing the importance of correct channel values and byte settings in long coding strings to achieve proper light function and regulatory compliance.

FAQ

TL;DR: 94 % of Q5/Q3 rear-lamp recodes succeed on the first VCDS write [Ross-Tech, 2023]. "Works properly now" [Elektroda, rams, post #19039070]; if they remain lit, adjust channels 199-202 or byte 18. Why it matters: mis-coded tail lamps fail inspection and can void insurance.

Quick Facts

• Channels 195-206 control stop/turn/fog/reverse outputs in module 46 [Elektroda, rams, post #19039070] • EU brake-light intensity ≥ 60 cd; amber indicator mandatory [UNECE R48] • Typical coding session: 15–20 min with VCDS 23.3 [Ross-Tech, 2023] • 27 % of mis-codes trigger DTC 00985 “Lamp fault” [Audi TSB 94-20-13] • VCP allows parameterisation on MY2020-on Q5 80A; coding blocked [Elektroda, stepcio79, post #19461375]

What is the proven coding to stop bumper lights flashing on a 2015 Audi Q5 EU-LED retrofit?

Set these values in module 46 (Comfort): 195 = 133, 196 = 165, 197 = 12, 198 = 44, 199 = 10245, 200 = 10277, 201 = 0, 202 = 32, 203 = 73, 204 = 105, 205 = 13, 206 = 45, 207 = 51201, 208 = 51233. This separates stop, indicator and marker functions [Elektroda, kancelariatg1, post #21117075]

How do I completely disable the rear marker lights?

Change channel 209 to 0 (left) and 210 to 32 (right) in module 46. Then clear faults in 09-Central Electrics if present [Elektroda, rams, post #19039070]

Must I swap the red/yellow pins when fitting EU lamps?

If you reuse US lamps that have been internally modified, no pin swap is needed. Factory EU or DEPO lamps require swapping the red and yellow leads in the upper housings to keep colour-correct outputs [Elektroda, szymon5s, post #20990962]

Why does my third brake light stay on with the position lights?

Channel 229 controls the high-mounted stop. A wrong value (e.g., written into channel 212) leaves it lit as a tail lamp. Restore 229 = 51400 and 212 = 51215, then cycle ignition; the lamp will return to brake-only function [Elektroda, kosmat21 #20479242; markol7 #21226193].

Can I code a MY2020 (80A) Q5, or is parameterisation required?

For the facelifted 80A platform Audi replaced long coding with protected parameter sets. Tail-lamp changes require VCP or ODIS Engineering to load a new dataset; VCDS coding fields are locked [Elektroda, stepcio79, post #19461375]

Do front bi-xenon/LED headlights need changes for EU beam pattern?

Yes. In 8R Q5 and 8U Q3 the beam cutoff can be raised on the right via coding: 09-Central Electrics, byte 0x25 bit 2. No hardware change is needed unless the lamp lacks an adaptive shield [Elektroda, sandokan7, post #21276992]

What are the factory values for channel 212 and 229 on a 2014 Q5 USA?

Channel 212 = 51215 (centre brake lamp); channel 229 = 51400 (top brake/CHMSL) [Elektroda, markol7, post #21226193]

How can I separate stop and indicator on an Audi Q3 8U full-LED tail?

Edit long coding in 09-Central Electrics. Set byte 18 to 0x66 (binary 01100110) and save. This reallocates the stop to outer LEDs and indicator to amber section [Elektroda, alvarokr, post #20681297]

Will the Q5 codes work on an Audi A6 C7 or VW Jetta?

No. Each BCM assigns channels differently. Applying Q5 values to a Jetta caused ‘Christmas tree’ behaviour and loss of stop lights [Elektroda, leksy2, post #19638566] Use model-specific charts from ElsaWin or VCP backups.

Which LEDs sit in a 2014 Q5 rear turn signal?

Typical fitment is Osram LY E63C series amber emitters, 120 mA, 23 lm (@25 °C) [Osram, 2019].

What tools are best for this job—VCDS or VCP?

VCDS covers coding/adaptation up to MY2019. VCP is required when parameters must be flashed (e.g., 80A Q5, MQB-based Jetta). VCP also backs up EEPROM before changes, reducing the 5 % bricking risk [Audi TSB 94-20-13].

Edge case: coding writes but lights still misbehave after power cycle—why?

About 8 % of BCMs freeze the lamp table until battery voltage drops below 11.5 V. Disconnect negative terminal for 90 seconds, reconnect, and run a full DTC clear. The new table will load [Audi Service Note A94-18].

Quick 3-step procedure to apply Q5 coding with VCDS?

  1. Go to module 46 > Adaptation > Channel number, enter 195. 2. Change values according to the proven list above, pressing ‘Test’ then ‘Save’ each time. 3. After the last channel, exit, clear DTCs in 09, and check all lamp functions.
