    Hello.
I am the unhappy owner of a UPC product in the form of a decoder modem, or whatever you call it Horizon. This equipment annoys me more and more because the decoder jams, i.e. it sometimes stops responding to the remote control commands because, for example, no button responds and you have to disconnect it from the power supply to reset it. As for the internet, and it's worse here, I use a partner with both 2.4 and 5ghz WiFi on two phones and a laptop. There are connection interruptions, network speed slowdowns, etc. I have been struggling with this for so long by resetting Horizon with this micro magic button, formatting the laptop, changing channels in the settings of this router. It spends it all for nothing. UPC is hiding behind the fact that the contract provides for a guarantee of a certain link only via the cable, and they are not responsible for WiFi. Driven by a fairly large number of complaints about the Horizon device in general, I'm turning to you for help.
The most recommended method found on Google is to invest in your own router. As much as I learned, you need to configure it somehow in the "bridge" mode to completely ignore the router built into Horizon.
Can you recommend something cheaper that will actually improve the quality of the internet in the form of your own router, but with WiFi 2.4 and 5 GHz? I cannot communicate with UPC and they only allow any changes to the equipment at the earliest in a year after my contract expires. I feel cheated paying for a service that gives me a lot of network problems. As they say "everything is fine with us". I can't see buying my own equipment, but if I don't want to finish it, maybe I'll do it. I would like to add that I play streaming on the Geforce Now service due to a weak laptop and Internet outages and high ping prevent me from playing freely. Yes, rarely, but also kably problems.

In summary, I am looking for a cheap router that will "match" Horizon and will improve the situation.
    I am asking for suggestions.

Ps Monter, when extending the contract, ordered his mother-in-law to leave the old router in addition to Horizon, calling it a crap, which proves that even an employee can honestly evaluate their equipment as flawed. Father-in-law has no problems with the internet. Trusting the ads, I chose SAM horizon and now my blood is flooding.
    Internet 150 Mbps
No competition for them in their place of residence.

The only option is to argue with UPC about their router installed next to this crap. Ten Horizon is not good for anything more than occasional watching "kittens on Facebook" and is not a typical router, so you can forget about working in bridge mode. Certainly you will have to bother with UPC, because they will not give up easily, so call me, write applications, etc. UPC is a really good ISP but as an accessory it has almost always been crap ...

Two things - you already have a router, and in one network there cannot be two devices with NAT (in practice two routers), otherwise more advanced network services will not work (you watch cats on Facebook, but you will not play online or VoIP you won't talk). So you're not buying a router, just access points, but first:
    - how much money do you have to spend (a decent AP is about PLN 600)?
    - how many other networks in the vicinity - scan with Wifi Analyzer and show the results
    - the only reliable connection is the cable - how the network behaves on a wired connection. If there are problems on the cable, ask UPC to disable IPv6 first.
Helpful post? Buy me a coffee.

It is customary to say "modemorouter".

A colleague does not have a "modemorouter" but a decoder with wifi function and probably one LAN socket. If it were a "modemorouter" the problem wouldn't be there. It's not just about double NAT, it's about the stability and quality of work of it. Only exchange and as they call it "deconsolidation" of services (separate decoder and separate modemorouter) will change something. Marketing crap as you wrote.

The father-in-law has Horizon and a router next to it, because an honest service technician ordered him to leave the router because horizon is "different". And he doesn't complain about balls like me.
In the game streaming service on Geforce Now, I always do a cable test at the beginning and it comes out great with a ping of max 40, a link over 50mbit and everything is green. However, during the game, he can disconnect me, and who used geforce Now knows how much work it is to join the service and the game. Eh.
I just think horizon is unstable. At 2.4ghz WiFi is crowded, but I have a channel set that does not catch with others. After 5ghz there is little traffic but it can also be active on my phone and my partner. It is so random. He disconnects when he wants to unexpectedly or slows down very much. And even it does not matter if we are sitting 1m from the router or in the other room.

You got a sell from UPC, because the marketer, when making sales, has to meet the norm. There is nothing to complain about, you just have to do something about it. Have you tried to use the advice given here by calling the hotline? Technically, there's nothing you can do about it.

No normal CPU ventilation+wifi connect from TV, not over Ethernet. Well, and it could be that connect over 5G wifi and the router is behind some wall. That's why you have stuttering.
Connect after Ethernet, good ventilation of the device (no obstruction of the right and left side of the router)).

Topic summary

The discussion revolves around issues faced by users of the UPC Horizon device, particularly concerning decoder jamming and Wi-Fi interruptions. Users report that the Horizon device frequently becomes unresponsive to remote commands, necessitating power resets. Additionally, Wi-Fi connectivity problems are prevalent, with users experiencing slow speeds and disconnections on both 2.4GHz and 5GHz networks. Suggestions include verifying network configurations, considering the impact of multiple devices on performance, and the potential need for additional access points or a separate router to improve stability. Users express frustration with UPC's customer service and the limitations of the Horizon device, which is perceived as inadequate for reliable internet use.
