    Hey everyone,

Since yesterday afternoon I have been struggling with the problem of obtaining a new IP address. For a long time, like some of us, I work from home and use one application that I mistakenly blocked access to based on my IP. I talked to my IT and found out that they can't do anything because the lock is automatic and it's best to connect from a different IP address.

This is where the problem arises. At home, I use UPC and the Horizon modem. I have a pseudo dynamic IP address that changes every six months.
I tried to force the change by turning off the modem, restarting to factory settings and changing the MAC address of the computer, unfortunately to no avail.
In the admin panel itself in the router, I also don't see any options to change.
In the evening I contacted UPC asking for a change and got the information that they are not able to change it and that I would try to restart the modem, which I did to no avail.

I will add that the option with VPN or proxy servers is not an option. I need a new IP address.
Do you have any solution to the problem?
Thank you in advance for your help.

Turn off the modem for a little longer (even 24 hours), maybe someone will just take over or the lease will expire. By the way, UPC's answer (if it was) that "they are not able to change it" is a simple lie, because who can, if not the administrator. However, as you say "Your IT" imposes a block and cannot take it off, it is also at least weird.
I suggest ordering a visit by a technician. Ultimately, replacing the modem should do the job, although I think a technician should be able to fix it and get that IP changed.

IT is in India, so they probably don't know how to do it.

What modem that allows you to change the IP in the UPC offer do you recommend?

I read a bit here, and found out to be able to change the IP you will need your own router and hardware from UPC in bridge mode. Is it true? For a long time I have been trying to buy my own router but I wonder if it will solve my problem?

In UPC, an IP address is assigned to the customer's account. Recently, I had my modem changed and the IP address has not changed.
Torment your IT in India until the end, or ask UPC to connect to the second support line, i.e. someone who can already do something.
Or, you can resign from UPC and sign a new contract with UPC the next day. :)

But the operator does not practice this at the customer's request.

The problem was created by the client - the visit will be paid PLN 50 added to the invoice.

The Horizon decoderouter does not have a bridge mode.

Since you have a Horizon set-top box, you have the internet service of 300Mb or lower - for this variant of the contract, you will not get another modem router.

Dynamic IP address, not assigned anywhere, nor to any person or contract.

Termination of the contract 30 days, then another 30 days grace period for a new contract for the same person. And when the contract is still running, it is the payment of a contractual penalty for premature termination of the contract.

This is the only solution at the moment.
Although this does not guarantee success.

Thanks a lot for your comprehensive answer. I ordered a technician for tomorrow and requested that my modem be replaced with a Giga Connect Box. Now I have two possible solutions.
    1. Will the technician after the hardware replacement be able to assign me a new IP address?
    2. Will the new equipment from UPC, which according to the assurances is to have Bridge support, when connected to my own router, allow me to change the IP? I have seen several tutorials that you can force a new IP assignment by changing the MAC address (clone). This can be done and is this investment profitable at all?

As for my IT, the case is pending but I don't know how long it will take.

GCB is only for 1 Gb net.
Or what you can get is a Compal called ConnectBox.

No, because it's not up to him.
After a hardware change, the new IP address is dynamically assigned by the DHCP server to the CMTS.

No, because the principle is the same as with Horizon.
You yourself, at your request and whim, will not change your public IP address.

In addition, you have to remember to turn off IPv6 on the new hardware, if you want to have the bridge mode.

    Nothing needs to be cloned.

Everyone has to judge for himself whether the purchase of his own router makes sense.
But the truth known for a long time is that the operator's equipment, if they give access to the settings at all, is miserable there, the lack of basic functions, 90% of the settings cannot be changed.

    Yes, it will work.
    But also remember this:

You call the hotline and they will switch over remotely.
During this conversation, ask to turn off WiFree (not to be confused with wifi).

    Ok I will remember.
A, would you recommend some decent, reasonably priced router that will have the option of changing that MAC address and forcing the UPC network to assign a new IP?

If I understand correctly, you need a new IP, maybe if you have wifi in the computer, connect to WiFree as a UPC subscriber, or use the phone as a modem via a USB cable and you will not have to combine.

Topic summary

The discussion revolves around the challenges of changing the IP address on a UPC Horizon modem due to an automatic block imposed by an application. The user has attempted various methods, including restarting the modem, factory resetting, and changing the MAC address, but has been unsuccessful. Responses suggest turning off the modem for an extended period, contacting UPC for technician support, or replacing the modem with a Giga Connect Box or Compal ConnectBox, which may allow for better control over IP assignment. It is noted that UPC assigns IP addresses dynamically and that the Horizon modem lacks bridge mode functionality. Users also discuss the potential of using their own routers to facilitate IP changes and the importance of disabling IPv6 for bridge mode operation.
