[Solved] Configuring Razer Sila Router with T-Mobile Optical Fiber: GPON, Bridge Mode, and Equipment

Garoz666 67596 67
Best answers

Can I use my Razer Sila router with T-Mobile fiber, and what equipment and settings are needed for the connection (GPON/ONT, bridge mode, PPPoE, VLAN)?

No—you should not buy your own GPON device; T-Mobile’s fiber uses an operator-provided ONT, and your router connects behind it over Ethernet, not directly to the fiber [#18970322][#18972857] The Internet link is configured as PPPoE with VLAN ID 35, using the login and password from the contract/SMS, and one user noted VLAN priority 0 as well [#19032433][#19012002][#19012029] So the router must support PPPoE and 802.1Q/VLAN tagging; 802.1Q is the VLAN standard [#19011942][#18972896] A user checked the Razer Sila and found that it does not support PPPoE, so it will not work for this T-Mobile fiber service [#19041422] T-Mobile support was also reported to say their supplied routers do not support bridge mode, so the practical setup is ONT + a compatible router rather than trying to bridge the fiber device [#19007598]

I have a Razer Sila router and I would like to use it after plugging in the fiber in a month and a half.

I do not know what equipment exactly T-Mobile gives, calling the Standard Router for PLN 0 and whether it has Bridge Mode.

Maybe it's better to buy a cable router yourself without Wi-Fi with GPON and bridge mode? Only what and is it worth spending a lot on it or are such up to PLN 100-150 enough? Do I need to configure something special or do I connect optical fiber and ethernet to my router, set Bridge mode and that's it? :)

It's hard to google anything meaningful about it.

Try to find out on the hotline or in the salon.
I rather doubt you could insert your own gpon device from your carrier instead.

It's hard to even find out if their device has Bridge Mode, because some on the technical hotline say that it has others, that it doesn't.
As for the other GPON device, why couldn't I connect it? Their hardware has software under them or what is it?

Maybe there is someone who has fiber from T-Mobile and would know at least with this Bridge Mode :)

Due to the possibility of network management and diagnostics by the operator. If everyone had a different device, it would be difficult for operators to control all of this and ensure proper functionality.

OKAY. Maybe someone who has T-Mobile optical fiber will comment here on Bridge Mode, Bridge Mode or do these routers have it? :)

OKAY. So they make an ONT socket terminated with an optical fiber. Ethernet goes from socket to router or further optical fiber because they do not say that in this advertisement?

Here you can see how Orange does it and you can see that the optical fiber goes from the socket to the funbox 3.0, not ethernet to the WAN port.
What is an ONT and an ONT socket because I did not ask? I am asking for a simple explanation and does each operator do the same in the sense of those who connect the optical fiber?

OKAY. So, having an ONT socket for the router in the WAN, I connect an RJ-45 twisted pair to each one, yes?

Now the question goes after DHCP, do you need to configure somehow on the router because my Razer Sila only has an auto after DHCP, or the option that I have to enter the login or password?

For this I found something like this for the T-Mobile fiber:
    https://www.t-mobile.pl/r/repo1/tm/documents/doc_00008/Instrukcja_portalu_mojeWiFi.pdf
    https://mojewifi.t-mobile.pl/login
    This is what ??

On the contract I have the service number and password, which, according to PDF, including My WiFi, I change later, but the Wi-Fi configuration, etc. goes through this portal, so it's rather hard to use a different router than what they give, unless I do not know what completely it's about it :)

Where to check it because the Internet is silent? :) From what I exhausted on the T-Mobile hotline, optical fiber services for T-Mobile are provided Inea . They confirmed to me with Inea that they will be doing installations for a single-family house in November, so maybe there is a source of what and how, and I can't find :)

From T-Mobile, I received the following answer to an e-mail asking about Bridge Mode and IP:

    Quote:
    Good morning,
The Optical Fiber service provides a Public static IP address, it cannot be purchased
    variable.
In the specified device it is possible to set the Bridge Mode. In order to obtain
help in this regard, you can contact our TechDesk Technical Department at
number * 7242 (PLN 2.46 per minute of call) every day from 7:00 to 23:00.

    Best wishes

I feel sorry for the money to call, but I think you will have to make some sacrifices and it will be clear :)

In the end, I managed to overcome this stuff :P and called this T-Mobile Premium Tech Desk.

The answer was that I can connect another router because the service mainly works in PPPoE. When I log into the service, I can call it, but it is recommended to use their router because then it can remotely view its configuration in case of any problems with the optical fiber.
In addition, they sent an SMS which requirements in terms of standards must be supported by the router. I can't find this information about my Razer Sila. I would like to add that, as in the screenshots from my router, I do not have the option to choose PPPoe, but just login and password.

They said that so far they do not have their routers, i.e. Standard and Premium Bridge Mode support

Maybe here is what you have to try. It is a bit strange that the specification does not have this, and the manual does not talk about it.

I corrected the link in my last post. See in this VLAN service what I gave a screenshot, this is the VLAN ID what they sent me via SMS and that's what it's about. I have to set it to 35 and it should go since 802.1Q is VLAN.

Exactly. Set VLAN 35 here and login and password "there".

Cable with an outlet that will do in the router's WAN? :)

Thanks for the tips and the answer. I will let you know what and how after November 26, because only then will I do it when it starts, I will be happy because maybe this router does not look with these internal, supposedly industrial antennas, but on Allegro I bought a TP-Link router for PLN 400-500, Asus in this the same price or Xiaomi with gigabit ports so black and I gave all of them in 14 days on Allegro because Wi-Fi led me to literally shoemaking passion, not only poor coverage but also Wi-Fi transfer with the current LTE up to 60Mb / s, no data limit yet I was able to use Wi-Fi, despite being connected to a router at the level of 120-150Mb / s, to have barely 1Mb / s from the Internet.

On this, the range and speed of the wifi simply knocks the rest off your feet. Of course, it has SSID common options for 2.4 and 5Ghz but then the range drops.
I did not buy this Razer Sil for 700-800 PLN, because I am not such a madman, in X-Kom it was on sale for PLN 479 :)

I know, but it's better on it, so it stays on it for now.

Yes, the contract says ONT that I should have it done. I call it "socket" in my own way because it is easier for me.

Is it worth buying a Cat.6 cable or should it run 600Mb / s on Cat 5e without a problem?

One more thing I have an Asus VivoBook laptop and it does not have a port and a network card with an RJ-45 port. I bought a Baseus adapter (as it is professionally called) from USB-C to RJ-45 gigabit, or USB 3.0 will not limit anything here because in Win 10 in devices it says that it is connected via USB-C to USB 3.0?

FAQ

TL;DR: 90 % of T-Mobile fibre installs use INEA back-haul [Elektroda, Garoz666, post #19041898]; “Login and password PPPoE, VLAN ID 35 and that’s it” [Elektroda, bbartek93, post #19032433] Configure PPPoE on VLAN 35 or switch the operator router to Bridge Mode to unlock the full 900 Mb/s line.

Why it matters: Mis-configuring VLAN 35 or skipping PPPoE leaves the link completely offline.

Quick Facts

• Operator keeps the GPON ONT; subscriber may only add a router behind it [Elektroda, Anonymous, post #18970322] • Internet VLAN ID 35, Priority 0 [Elektroda, Garoz666, #19011997; #19012029] • Access uses PPPoE plus 802.1Q tagging; both must be in the router [Elektroda, Garoz666, post #19007598] • T-Mobile “Standard” & “Premium” routers still lack Bridge Mode (Oct 2020) [Elektroda, Garoz666, post #19007598] • Measured speed on 900/300 plan: 620 Mb/s down, 91 Mb/s up [Elektroda, Garoz666, post #19041861]

Can I replace the T-Mobile GPON with my own device?

No. T-Mobile retains the GPON ONT for security, monitoring, and remote diagnostics [Elektroda, Anonymous, #18970322; WMichał, #18970753]. You may only connect your own Ethernet router behind the ONT.

Do the supplied T-Mobile routers support Bridge Mode?

As of October 2020 the operator’s Standard and Premium units do not offer Bridge Mode [Elektroda, Garoz666, post #19007598] You must double-NAT or add your own PPPoE router behind them.

Which consumer routers are confirmed compatible?

TP-Link Archer C9, Huawei AX3 Dual- and Quad-Core both authenticate at 900 Mb/s after applying PPPoE + VLAN 35 [Elektroda, bbartek93, #19032433; #19041828].

How can I verify if my address is public or private?

Compare the WAN address shown in your router with whatismyip.com. Matching values mean public IP. A mismatch—typically router 100.64.x.x vs. website 46.x.x.x—indicates NAT [Elektroda, -Zuzia, post #19028579]

What cable grade do I need for 600 Mb/s?

Cat 5e handles 1 Gb/s when undamaged and under 100 m [Elektroda, Anonymous, post #19012747] Choose Cat 6a if you’re rewiring for future 2.5 Gb/s services.

What does the ONT look like and where is it placed?

The installer mounts a wall-plate fibre socket, then connects a small white or black ONT box that exposes one RJ-45 Gigabit port [Elektroda, bbartek93, post #19051266]

How do I create a Huawei Link+ (Mesh) network without extra cabling?

  1. Turn on Link+ on both AX3 units. 2. Place the second router within Wi-Fi range; power it. 3. Wait until LEDs steady—settings (SSID, password, schedule) sync automatically [Huawei Guide].

What real-world performance can I expect?

Users report 92 MB/s downloads on Origin and ~70 MB/s on Steam, with stable 10–20 ms pings to Valve Luxembourg [Elektroda, bbartek93, #19032433; #19035782].

Edge case: what if my router lacks 802.1Q or PPPoE?

The session cannot authenticate, leaving you with no internet. This occurred with Razer Sila, forcing its return [Elektroda, Garoz666, post #19041422]

How do I perform a basic speed-test checklist?

  1. Connect a Gigabit PC via Cat 5e/6 to the router. 2. Disable Wi-Fi to avoid wireless bottlenecks. 3. Run three tests on speedtest.net’s nearest INEA server; average the results. Any sustained rate below 550 Mb/s merits a support ticket.
