Is Tooway satellite internet a good choice for independent home internet, and what are its main limitations?

Tooway works, but it is mainly a fallback when you do not have good LTE coverage, because if LTE is available it is usually the better option [#19203887][#19208508][#19506375] It delivers the speeds you order, but latency is very high at around 600 ms to 800 ms, so it is not suitable for gaming [#19203887][#19208470][#19506375] It is usable for normal browsing and even TV streaming, chess, and VoIP, although performance during heavier use is limited by the high ping [#19208470][#19506375] It is also not truly unlimited: users report throttling after roughly 150–200 GB of usage [#19208470] Coverage is broad across Europe, so it can be a reasonable choice where no better connection exists [#19203887][#19506375]

What do you want to know? Is it working? ;) It works ... the speeds you ordered are actually. If you don't have LTE, you won't find anything else. Coverage all of Europe.

I would like to find out what it is like with these delays, whether, for example, you can watch TV from the Internet, or is the signal stable during rainfall. How is it actually with data packets.

    Added after 6 [minutes]:

I have LTE, but for some time the internet has been dropping so far that it is impossible to get to the bank or other websites that require logging in for some time. This situation has been repeated for several months. I pay PLN 65 and it is supposed to be an unlimited package - but the facts are different. I've been in this network for 20 years or more and I would rather not choose to stay.

There are no unlimited packages. In tooway pings are about 600ms. The TV works, you can play chess, etc. ;) Each operator reduces speed after crossing the package. In tooway I see that after exceeding 150-200G they also do it. What network do you have LTE on? You have to opt out of video services .. ;) ) How many users do you have on LTE, What speeds?

I have Lte in T-Mobile. I have a good range, all lines in the router, external antennas. In the evening I will give you the speed, check and paste the screenshots. There was no such problem in the past. I only use it alone, plus monitoring.

What's your package? There was 60G in Plus, now I think 100G in Play gives 300GB. If you have LTE then tooway won't be better. It works only where there is no LTE. Check range, e.g. PLAY and change operator.

OK So the satellite is out. I would decide to use the Internet on the OTVARTA network. I have two numbers there. There is a choice: dynamic-fixed IP, public or permanent IP. How to get it. I also use the Internet for home monitoring. What to choose from these settings.

If you have monitoring, you will need a permanent address. OTVARTA is a virtual network. How about LTE coverage in your location ??

according to maps: LTE PLUS Advanced. Sianów town. West Pomeranian.
Until now, I also had LTE in t-mobile. I think I had a dynamic IP there. (I still have one) you will probably have to change something in the recorders, but since you say that a fixed IP is better. I will do it. Otvarta offers 300GB. for PLN 45.

Be careful with the maps ;) reality may be different. Otvarta is based on PLUS GSM. I don't think the speed is greater than 10M there. Sign a contract so that you can return it after a few days ... If you are kumaty, you can handle dynamic IP. :)

I have two subscriptions in this network, one is an intercom and the other is a telephone. I also have internet on my phone. Maybe it would be possible to check the internet speed on the phone somehow before signing the contract?

Maybe it is worth waiting for starlink.com already in the UK and DE works. :)

What's that, better speeds? I have until July - then I would have to make a decision.

Yes, they are actually not prices for Europe.

Mainly - not for Polish earnings.

As for Tooway - It is not for players due to the large 600ms - 800ms pings.
But Voip, surprisingly, even works well on it (checked 2 days ago).
Nevertheless, it is sufficient for "normal" use, I used it myself for several years.
As colleagues wrote, if nothing works, then Tooway, but if LTE with good coverage, then only LTE.

About two or three years ago, I established a lot in various forester's lodges.
It was just that even telephones in the middle of the forest did not want to work, let alone the internet.
The foresters were ordered to work on the application via the Internet (in short).
I am writing this to show an example where there was simply no other choice.

I bought internet from OTVAREJ, we will see how it works.

Topic summary

✨ Tooway satellite internet is discussed primarily in terms of its performance, particularly regarding latency, data limits, and reliability during adverse weather conditions. Users report high ping times (600-800ms), which can hinder activities like gaming but still allow for basic internet usage and VoIP services. Concerns are raised about the lack of truly unlimited packages, with speed reductions occurring after exceeding data thresholds (150-200GB). Users with LTE connections express that if LTE coverage is good, Tooway may not be the best option. Alternatives like OTVARTA are considered, with discussions on IP settings for home monitoring. Some users suggest waiting for emerging technologies like Starlink for potentially better service.

FAQ

TL;DR: Tooway works, but expect about 600 ms latency—"pings are about 600ms." Streaming and VoIP are OK; gaming suffers. Typical slowdowns after ~150–200 GB. For rural users comparing Tooway vs LTE/OTVARTA and choosing IP for CCTV access. [Elektroda, telbod, post #19208470]

Why it matters: It helps you pick a connection and IP setup that actually fits your location and use.

Quick Facts

Is Tooway reliable for everyday use?

Yes. A user reports, "It works ... the speeds you ordered are actually." Coverage includes all of Europe. It suits locations without LTE. [Elektroda, telbod, post #19203887]

What latency and gaming experience should I expect on Tooway?

Expect 600–800 ms ping. A user notes, "It is not for players" due to high latency. Use it for non‑real‑time tasks instead. [Elektroda, tomiok, post #19506375]

Can I stream TV or IPTV over Tooway?

Yes. "The TV works," reported by a user. Manage data because providers slow speeds after roughly 150–200 GB. Streaming in HD can reach limits quickly. Use streaming sparingly if your plan is small. [Elektroda, telbod, post #19208470]

Are Tooway packages really unlimited?

No. "There are no unlimited packages." Tooway reduces speed after exceeding about 150–200 GB, per user experience. Expect a Fair Use Policy. Heavy downloaders will notice slower speeds after the cap. [Elektroda, telbod, post #19208470]

Does rain or snow affect Tooway performance?

Yes. Tooway uses Ka‑band, which is sensitive to rain fade. Heavy rain or wet snow can reduce signal and throughput. Professional alignment and clear line‑of‑sight help resilience. Expect temporary slowdowns during downpours. [KA‑SAT official factsheet]

Should I pick Tooway if I already have LTE?

Usually no. One expert writes, "If you have LTE then tooway won't be better." They add, "It works only where there is no LTE." First test other LTE operators in your area. [Elektroda, telbod, post #19208508]

How do I check LTE speed before switching provider?

Use a phone and a speed test app. 1. Install Ookla Speedtest from your app store. 2. Test at peak times and off‑peak, indoors and outdoors. 3. Compare results for each operator’s SIM before committing. "Download applications... e.g. OKLA speed test and check." [Elektroda, telbod, post #19241951]

Are LTE coverage maps reliable?

Treat them cautiously. "Be careful with the maps," notes a user. Reality can differ from the map view. Sign on terms that allow returns if performance disappoints. Test quickly within the return window. [Elektroda, telbod, post #19241454]

Which IP option should I choose on OTVARTA for home CCTV?

Pick a static (permanent) public IP. "If you have monitoring, you will need a permanent address." Dynamic IP can work for advanced users, but static is simpler. [Elektroda, telbod, post #19241324]

Does OTVARTA run on Plus’s network, and what speeds should I expect?

Yes. "Otvarta is based on PLUS GSM." In that setup, one user warns, "I don't think the speed is greater than 10M there." Treat this as local expectation, and test before committing. [Elektroda, telbod, post #19241454]

Is OTVARTA’s 300 GB for PLN 45 plan worth it?

Otvarta offers 300 GB for PLN 45, as reported by a user. Evaluate your monthly video usage against that cap. Combine it with local speed tests to confirm suitability at your address. [Elektroda, seku69, post #19241357]

Do VoIP calls work over Tooway?

Yes. A user tested it and reports, "Voip, surprisingly, even works well on it." Expect delays from latency, but audio remains usable. [Elektroda, tomiok, post #19506375]

Is Tooway a good option for remote huts or forest cabins?

Yes. One installer notes using Tooway in foresters’ lodges where phones failed. The service enabled mandated online apps in deep‑forest locations. It fills the gap where mobile networks do not reach. [Elektroda, tomiok, post #19506375]

Should I wait for Starlink instead of Tooway?

Starlink is active in the UK and Germany, according to users. Availability and pricing evolve, so check regional status before waiting. If you need service now, evaluate LTE or Tooway today. [Elektroda, crashzero, post #19377123]

How can I avoid hitting Tooway’s fair‑use cap?

Reduce video usage first. As one user advised, "You have to opt out of video services." Disable auto‑play and schedule large downloads sparingly. Track monthly usage in your router. [Elektroda, telbod, post #19208470]

Do Tooway speeds match the plan you buy?

Typically yes. A user confirms, "the speeds you ordered are actually." This suggests the service meets advertised rates under normal conditions. Test after install to verify performance. [Elektroda, telbod, post #19203887]
