Recommended M.2 SATA SSD Brands for Dell Wyse 5070 J5005: 500GB vs 1TB

As in the topic - what to buy. Unfortunately, the M.2 interface is SATA, the choice is much smaller. I have never used M.2 drives. What companies do you recommend? Is it worth buying a 1T drive (according to the documentation, the drive should be up to 512GB)

Hello, Samsung offers some EVO series, they are seemingly more expensive, but real parameters and high reliability.

If it's a 2280 drive then WD Blue is a reasonable choice. It has a reasonable performance, there are not too many negative reviews, it has a 5-year warranty and the price is quite bearable.

I hope so too, but the documentation says "capacity up to 512GB" and does not say whether it is a matter of where the bootloader will be seen or the actual maximum capacity of the disk.

I'm also wondering about this on the net, people write that 1TB M.2 SATA works for them:

I bought the drive recommended by @dt1. It works, linux sees the entire disk.

Which one did you buy? 1TB or 500GB?

Which drive to buy today? I am mainly referring to whether M Key, B Key? On the board the connector looks like this - middle of the picture:

I think it's an M Key. On al....o for example there are disks what have both M and B keys. Will such a drive be suitable?

On this Dell, is there a whitelist in the bios where only selected drive models are listed?

I personally recommend the Samsung 870.

According to Dell's specs for this computer, it only supports SATA, so M.2 SATA. Drives of this type usually have both cutouts and such should work despite the lack of a second key in the slot.

That's what I thought but wasn't 100% sure. I'll buy something first come first served in that case.

If you have a SMART, it might be more worthwhile to buy https://allegro.pl/oferta/dysk-ssd-m-2-samsung-mznln256hajq-256gb-m-2-sata-17461385008 - with no shipping charge there won't be that much difference, the extra gigabytes, even if not used, are a plus when it comes to the life of the device (there is something to rotate when writing). And in general Samsung had quite successful those models.

The drive may be cool, but you recommended the seller to me for h... - Not only did he send the wrong type of drive - NVMe instead of M2 SATA - but it was 99% defective because I checked two different computers in which I currently have NVMe drives - I took out my drives to check the one I bought. In one the computer hangs on Enterning is BIOS screen and nothing can be done. In another, the bios doesn't see the drive at all:

I made the return, got the cash back but without it and without the disk I was about a week.

When I notified about the bad shipment of course the info that we apologise - quote: "there must have been a packing mistake".
After exchanging several messages I received this - and I quote:
"I checked today, if I had such disks , I would have sent you , but we ran out ...".

Well, what do you mean we are out of stock, if there was a mistake in packing, does that mean that the right disc from the auction title is there and is lying unsent?

What a crock - the guy is selling goods that he does not have in stock. This disk was simply not in stock at the time of purchase and he sent me the first one he had on hand.

Need a compatible and 100% working drive let me know on PW.

Happens anyway, that's something I couldn't foresee. I myself have bought several goods from them and they rather sent me what I ordered .
