I don't know if the title of the forum formulates my question well, so I'll expand on it: is the Zigbee 3.0 gateway also a control panel or just a "relay" linking a network of devices? I mainly mean where e.g. scenes are saved? Does the gateway have all scenes of the system stored in it (after previous programming, e.g. by SmartLife or Tuya) and in the case of receiving parameters sufficient for the execution of a scene, it sends information only to the devices participating in the scene? Or do all the devices in a scene have the same scenario stored and execute it when they have received sufficient parameters? How does this work behind the scenes, at the system architecture level?

Years ago I was involved in building a smart home installation based on the Gira Instabus and there the control panel was the "server" containing all the instructions (previously programmed) and distributed them over the twisted pair to selected actuators (buttons, sockets, switches, etc.). How is it in Zigbee?

I don't know quite what principle it works on, but if it helps you the scenes are triggered even without internet access. All the sensors, switches on Zigbee turn everything paired with the gateway on and off.

This doesn't really answer my question but it does answer another: Is Zigbee dependent on, for example, Chinese servers ;) .

At my place I observed that one of the devices has no communication with the gateway but still performs scenes. That is, it appears that they are independent of each other.

It is possible that it has connectivity with the gateway only displays a message about no connectivity via the app (WiFi/Internet)? Does it also respond to functions through the app? At my place it happens once in a while that in the app all devices display the message No connection and nothing can be done but from the finger on the wall everything works as expected.

From the app it doesn't work, but from the finger and automation it goes.

Well, it's the same situation except that in my case it's happening simultaneously on all elements of the system. However, it is not known whether there is a loss of connection between the gateway and the Zigbee servers (and there is between the elements of the system and the gateway, so it works from the finger and the automation works) or whether the loss is between the elements of the system and the gateway, but everyone is able to communicate with each other, so everything still works (and it can, because this is, among others, the idea of this communication).

Yes the gateway is a switchboard.

Topic summary

The discussion revolves around the functionality of the Zigbee 3.0 gateway, questioning whether it acts solely as a network relay or also serves as a control panel for smart home devices. Participants note that scenes can be triggered without internet access, indicating that devices can operate independently of the gateway. Some users report that devices continue to function even when they show no connectivity to the gateway, suggesting that the gateway may not store all scene data but rather facilitates communication among devices. The conversation highlights the architecture of Zigbee systems, where devices can execute programmed scenes autonomously, contrasting with traditional systems where a central control panel manages all instructions.
