Hello.

I live near my college having WiFi access. But to use it, I have to go on my roof. So I want to build one WiFi booster antenna for my laptop so that I can get proper signal strength in my room. I actually do not understand as to where should I start. I am using a Lenovo Z560 laptop.

I would suggest you take a look at this.

You could get a router that can be used as a repeater. There are a few models out there can be modified. Check out this article: "Turn your wifi router into a repeater":http://lifehacker.com/265142/turn-your-wifi-router-into-a-repeater

If you get a router that has a detachable antenna then you can add a cable and place the antenna on your roof.

thanks, will it be useful to use usb wifi adaptor with an extension cable fitted as a dish anteena outside my house. generally laptops use internal wifi anteena, would any external anteena will effect it anyway.

You will need to probably modify a usb WiFi dongle. You will want to make sure you check the impedance of the usb antenna input port and see if it is 50 ohms. For example it may be 120 ohms and your cable that you are connecting to it is 50 ohms. You will need to make an impedance transformation circuit.
