Power failure

My samsung DVD-P270K could not power on after a rain in my area and I suspected it had lightning effect but there is no burnt component on the power pack and the picture board.What could be the possible failure of the power system?What do I do to fix the problem?

Mr. Isu - One does not need a burned spot on a circuit board to have a failure. Lightning is like a weapons-grade EM Pulse(EMP) and can fry things on the microscopic level. This can happen "through the air;" no contact necessary. I have had many failures over the years after a lightning burst near where no obvious damage was done. My guess is that it will cost more to repair than replace your DVD. Martin

Certainly lightning could cause a failure invisible to the naked eye. While it might be possible to diagnose and repair the affected board, for most modern consumer electronics this is not cost-effective. It would take longer and cost more than buying a new unit.

It's also _possible _that the failure is simple and maybe even unrelated to the lightning. The challenge is to find what has failed. I'd start with the power supply -- it could just be an open fuse. Or a broken wire or bad solder joint somewhere. If you have a schematic or service manual and some simple test equipment the diagnosis and/or repair could be pretty quick. But I wouldn't hold out a lot of hope.
