Hello everyone, ill begin by saying i have no formal training in electronics but have been learning on my own for a while now and im having trouble with a electret mic amp circuit.

Basically all i want to do is have a electret mic that goes to a pair of headphones. First i made the circuit and was able to just barley hear my finger rubbing on the mic in the headphones ( no voice came through) and can hear when blowing into the mic. From that i figured that its not amplifying the sound enough. Any idea which resistor i modify to increase the gain? I changed a couple somewhat randomly and my transistor literally went up in smoke.
