Hey all,
ive got a couple questions for you guys. First off ill start out saying that ive searched and searched on many motorcycle forums for the answer to this question ... some say its possible and some say theres no point in trying
well I purchased a vintage 2 stroke Yamaha DT250 about a year ago ... with a bunch of setbacks, im finally able to start working on this pig again ... anyways ... when I purchased it, it had/still does have the original 6v magneto that has 2 coils ... one for spark and the other that powers all the lighting. the problem here being that whoever owned it before me must have only used it as a farm bike or a learner bike because all of the electrical but the wire to the coil had been removed.
question 1.) the bike came with a bunch of spare parts and one of them being another magneto ... I was wondering if it is at all possible to rewind this magneto (6v AC to 12v DC).
i have a couple reasons for wanting to do this, being as how im going to have to rewire the complete bike to make it street legal anyways id really like to go to LED lights all the way around. ONE so i can see better at night ... and TWO so other drivers on their cell phones have a better chance of seeing me lol and with the LEDs on the bike i have a little something custom planned for the turn signals. which leads me to
question 2.) if it is in any way possible to rewind the stator to 12v id like to run a sequintal turn signal system like the newer mustangs have in their taillights ... but everything ive searched for ive came up with nothing that's readily available and essentially plug and play so im going to have to create one ... before my x hit me with a divorce i had read that using a 555 timer and some other chip (18 prongs and kinda looks like a centipede) can give me the results im looking for ... i had a curciut together on a breadboard but the night i tested it i could only get the first LED to light up, unless i took the positive jumper on and off the positive terminal on the battery really fast ... then the next night i come home to find divorce papers and her running off to our roommate.
so i guess big long story about my 2 questions ... 1 can i rewind the stator coils to make 12v ... and 2 can anyone help me out with a circuit design for a sequintal turn signal system .. that actually works lol
thank you in advance guys .. any help is appreciated
